graduate from high school, college and career ready
Columbus, OH (April 8, 2017) – City Year Columbus, a nonprofit organization that unites
AmeriCorps members for a year of service in Columbus City Schools, is proud to announce its
collaboration with AT&T, as City Year’s newest team sponsor. On Saturday, April 8, at City
Year Columbus’s 2017 Red Jacket Ball, AT&T Ohio’s External Affairs Director Christopher
Wyche will present the new collaboration and a check for the $100,000 contribution to support
the team at Linden McKinley STEM Academy.
“City Year has been a valued presence in Columbus City Schools, and they continue to
work hand in hand with our educators,” said Columbus City Councilmember Elizabeth Brown.
“Ongoing support from companies like AT&T helps to ensure that we can continue to meet the
needs of all of our students.”
As part of AT&T Aspire, AT&T works with City Year affiliates across the country to support
student academic achievement and socio-emotional growth with the goal of increasing the
number of students who are on-track to graduate, prepared for college and career. City Year
Columbus deploys City Year AmeriCorps members to work with students in grades three
through ten, with research-based interventions targeting the early warning indicators of poor
attendance, behavior incidents, and course failure in Math and English.
This new collaboration allows a team of ten to provide targeted interventions with academic
tutoring, behavior support and mentoring, attendance coaching and monitoring, whole-school
activities, and extended day programming. City Year Columbus AmeriCorps members serve
throughout the school day, forming meaningful relationships with students.
“Through AT&T Aspire, we support proven programs like City Year that help students at-risk of
dropping out graduate on time, ready for success in college, career, and life,” said Wyche.
“Extending our collaboration with City Year will allow us to help even more students make their
biggest dreams a reality.”
“We are deeply grateful to AT&T for its generous support of City Year Columbus and for its
national leadership on addressing the high school dropout crisis,” said City Year Columbus
Executive Director Tasha Booker. “City Year AmeriCorps members are near-peers to the
students they serve and highly motivated to get results. Their talent, dedication, and year of full-
time service can help students get back on track and recognize their potential. We are so grateful
to work with AT&T on this important collaboration.”
