2. Overview
• Sea levels are rising and oceans are becoming warmer. Longer, more intense
droughts threaten crops, wildlife and freshwater supplies. From polar bears in the
Arctic to marine turtles off the coast of Africa, our planet’s diversity of life is at
risk from the changing climate.
• Climate change poses a fundamental threat to the places, species and people’s
livelihoods WWF works to protect. To adequately address this crisis we must
urgently reduce carbon pollution and prepare for the consequences of global
warming, which we are already experiencing.
3. What is climate change?
• Changes in the climate have recently become more than obvious. By the end of
this century, it is estimated that the Earth's surface temperature will rise by
approximately 2°C, having devastating effects on our ecosystems, flora, fauna
and humans. Moreover, the chemical composition of the atmosphere has also
noticed significant changes, thanks to an increase in greenhouse gas emissions,
predominantly methane, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide.

6. THE RISING PROBLEM OF PLASTIC WASTE
IN INDIA
• India’s plastic demand reaches 20.89
million Tonnes in 2021-22 and
projected to continue growing to 22
million Tonnes by 2023,
• As many as 4,953 registered units are
engaged with plastic in 30 States in
India,
• The Indian government claims
that 60% of the country’s plastic waste
gets recycled. However, the reality is
somewhat different, as India could only
recycle 12% of its plastic waste,

7. Challenges of Plastic Waste Recycling
1.Limited
Availability of
Quality
Material,
2. Gap in
Demand &
Supply
3. Lack of

8. Solutions for Effective plastic waste
recycling
• Educating manufacturers about the various category of plastics thousands of polymer
options & their specific chemical properties. Also, the number of plastic manufacturing
processes that have been developed to cover the applications of plastic.
• Creating appropriate awareness and providing an organized employment opportunity for
the waste pickers.
• Identifying a skilled individual who can enhance the skills of the workers will help in
overcoming the lack of industrial expertise. The working of new equipment can be explained
by operational management will boost the outcome of plastic waste recycling.
9. How can
plastic
waste in
India be
reduced?
Remember Remember to bring a cloth bag with you
when shopping or grocery shopping
Glass or
steel
Glass or steel containers should be used
instead of Tupperware or other plastic
ware
Avoid Avoid using cosmetics microplastics; use
biodegradable brushes and natural
textiles
Choose Choose to reuse and repurpose some of
the packaging
10. Conclusions and Outlook
• Plastic bags affect many people, not only the consumers but
plastic bags also affects the environment and animals.
• We are affected by plastic bags because we all dispose of them
incorrectly and because we are unaware of the consequences
of using plastic bags.
• To make things better I would use an alternative for plastic
bags, which in this case is using a reusable bag. People would
begin to use reusable bags as soon as possible because doing so
we could be able to cut down on the negative impact created
by plastic bags.
• Using reusable bags instead of plastic bags is something that
should be done worldwide because the impact that plastic bags
has would be reduced.
