7. What is Nirbhaya scheme?
 Since its inception in 2013, the Nirbhaya Fund, set up to finance
projects to improve the safety and security of women, has seen
significant underutilization and slow operationalization of
approved projects.

8. Objective of Nirbhaya scheme?
 The Nirbhaya scheme – was created to be utilized for projects
specifically designed to improve the safety and security of
women in public places
 Government provide 1000 crores per year for empowernment
,safety and security of women and girl children .
 To improve safeguard to constitutional rights of women and
children.

 Data showed that there are
less uses by some states.
 Uttar Pradesh and Telangana,
the two states which were in
the news recently for horrific
incidents of rape and murder,
were among the highest
recipients of the “Nirbhaya
Fund” alongside Karnatka,
Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and
Delhi.

 “Nirbhaya Fund” has helped to improve women’s safety
 It is very useful scheme for women’s safety.
 Data shared by govt on Nirbhaya Fund for projects towards
women’s safety showed that of Rs. 2,264 crore allocated to states
& Uts, 89% of funds were not being used.
 We need to educate men and women on women’s rights under the
law and work with communities to develop a gender sensitive
society that is underpinned by respect.
