4. SOME FACTS ABOUT E-WASTE
• India fifth largest producer of e-waste: THE HINDU
• India to produce 30 lakh metric tons of e-waste by 2018: ET
• India has capacity of processing e-waste : 4.4 lakh metric ton only
• For every one million cell phones that are recycled, the EPA states
that 35,274 lbs of copper, 772 lbs of silver, 75 lbs of gold, and 33
lbs of palladium can be recovered.
• One ton of circuit boards is estimated to contain 40-800 times
more gold than one metric ton of ore.
5. Problems due to e-waste
E-waste which is dumped in

ground water, reaching into
our body through food and
water.
These can cause serious
harmful effects to our body
parts.
7. What government is doing ?
• There is no provision to penalize the state/UTs to compensate
against generating more e-waste.
• No comprehensive inventorization of e-waste generation in the
country has been done.
• Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in 2005 estimated 1.47
lakh ton of e-waste in the country.
• The Government has comprehensively revised e-waste
(Management & handling) Rules, 2011, and notified E-Waste
(Management) Rules in March, 2016.

• Recycle
• Make businesses responsible
• Refurbish
• Industrial skill development for recycling
• Extend the life of your electronics
• Use in road construction as crushed mineral aggregate
