The first selection is the concluding pages of Cyprian Davis' famous book
The History of Black Catholics in the United States
. It will give us a brief historical account to ground our discussion of race and the Christian tradition.
1. W
rite a paragraph about what you learned from Davis' article regarding the Catholic Church and racial justice in the 20th century
. Note that this article does not try to clear up some of the ambiguities surrounding race and Christianity... Davis is happy to simply provide you with some stories and offer his thoughts on their significance. So, your paragraph here should indicate that you recognize that things are rather complicated here! One strand you might want to keep an eye on is the relationship between theory and practice... in other words, how did theoretical teachings about race actually work out in real life?
The second selection is an article by Brian Bantum, a Christian pastor and scholar. He argues here that Christians cannot be "post-racial" given our current state of affairs.
2. Being "post-racial" initially might sound like it could be a good thing... What does Bantum mean by the term "post-racial" and what are some of his reasons for saying that Christians cannot be "post-racial" (if you're stuck, think about his claims that "race matters" in various ways)?
3. On page 7, Bantum talks about 2 "beasts". Explain the difference between the "beast" of the 1960's and the "beast" of today.
4. Briefly discuss 2 examples from the text that show the difference that Bantum's Christian faith makes for how he understands the topic of race. (hint: he continually talks about discipleship, a word that you all should be familiar with by now...)

The first Book Review is based upon required course readings tha.docxhe45mcurnow
The first Book Review is based upon required course readings that offer contemporary accounts of the lived experience of Confucianism and Islam. The reviews call for you to consider the contemporary expressions of these faiths and to reflect upon their relevance to your own and our collective societal experience--To consider how central teachings, principals and practices of these faith traditions could be introduced and implemented into your own life, experience and American culture so as to lend to your personal and our collective edification.
In light of the above description from our course syllabus, your review of T.R. Reid’s book, Confucius Lives Next Door: What Living In The East Teaches Us About Living In the West, ought to consider the following:
Reid and his family’s experience of Confucianism/the Confucian ethos during their residency in Japan in the 1990’s—An experience which he describes as East Asia’s Social Miracle.
How Confucianism/the Confucian ethos is expressed in contemporary Japanese culture—Including, when relevant/pertinent, consideration and assessment of central Confucian tenets operative in and experienced by the Reid’s during their residency in contemporary Japan, e.g., evidence of the 5 Confucian Virtues (

Allow the review to be an occasion by which you reflect upon and consider aspects, anecdotes and aspects of the book and the experience of the Reid’s which particularly struck you in some way—positively and/or negatively—and critically engage and assess why this was the case. The final project for this course requires you to communicate your a.docxhe45mcurnow
The final project for this course requires you to communicate your analysis of a text multi-modally. Theories of multi-modal communication recognize that we experience the world through multiple senses simultaneously. It’s through these senses that we make sense of the world. Analyzing multi-modally provides an opportunity for you to better understand your chosen topic and to work on your communication skills.
The project is divided into 2 parts: the proposal paper andthe final project. The purpose of the proposal is to explain your project. The proposal should specify which text or texts you’ve chosen to work with, which modes of communication your project will incorporate, why you’ve chosen the text(s), why those modes of communication are best suited to your analysis, and how those modes of communication will come together in your project.
For example, if I chose to work with two poems from the last unit of the course I would start by naming which poems and explaining why they interest me. Then I would specify which modes of communication I would be incorporating and why. I might choose to work with visual, verbal, and aural communication, for example, if I were working with poetry because poetry communicates much of its meaning through figurative language and sound. Finally, I would explain how those modes of communication would work together in the project—I might be working with visual art, such as painting or drawing, and music; or I might be working with digital art and a voice recording. You don’t need to know your exact thesis or which theme you’ll be focusing on, at times that only becomes clear once you start the work of analysis.
Requirements: 500-600 words, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font, MLA format

The film BARAKA is described as non-verbal spiritual meditation on t.docxhe45mcurnow
The film BARAKA is described as non-verbal spiritual meditation on the relationship between humans and nature. The film consists of three segments representing the following themes: the beauty of the natural world and the spiritual world, the negative impacts of humans/technology on the natural and spiritual worlds and the reconnection between humans and nature via spirituality/religion. From this perspective, spirituality is at the center of the relationship between humans and nature and its also the means by which humans connect or reconnect with nature.
Our text book presents a different perspective. According to our text, technology is the means by which humans adapt to, interact with and make sense out of nature. Technology is what allows us as humans to live fully within an otherwise powerful and somewhat uncontrollable natural world. From this perspective, technology, rather than spirituality, is at the center of the relationship between humans and nature and the means by which humans connect or reconnect with nature.
How do you perceive, based on your personal experience, the relationship between humans, technology, nature, and religion/spirituality? Do you agree with the perspective of the film? With the text? A combination of the two? Neither?
Be specific in your argument and use examples from the film, text, and your experience to support your argument.

The Extra Credit Assignment In Topic 6 you and your classmates consi.docxhe45mcurnow
The Extra Credit Assignment In Topic 6 you and your classmates considered Lin-Manuel Miranda’s choice of Alexander Hamilton as an archetypical American. For this extra credit assignment choose one person about whom you have learned this summer session who you think is an archetypical American and explain what “American” characteristics you think they embody.
You may not choose Alexander Hamilton. Rather, for this assignment, I want you to find your own Hamilton!
Your assignment should be at least 500 words.
Your choice must appear in Out of Many and/or in one of the assigned primary or secondary sources. But a lot of interesting historical figures from lesser-known people like Phyllis Wheatley or James Otis to even well-known people, like Pocahontas, Thomas Jefferson, Frederick Douglas, or Abraham Lincoln
only get brief coverage in the assigned reading due to time-constraints. So, for this assignment I want you to do a bit of additional research. In your essay, in addition to drawing on information from the assigned reading, also incorporate information from one good-quality internet source. The website you use must end in .edu (= associated with a college or university), .gov (= associated with the US government), or .pbs.org (= associated with PBS). I highly recommend getting your website approved by me before you write your essay. (Email me at any time to check.)

The Estrangement of Labour, page 1 of 3We shall start out from a.docxhe45mcurnow
The Estrangement of Labour
We shall start out from an actual economic fact. The worker becomes poorer the more wealth he produces, the more his production increases in power and extent. The worker becomes an ever cheaper commodity the more commodities he produces. The devaluation of the human world grows in direct proportion to the increase in value of the world of things. Labour not only produces commodities; it also produces itself and the workers as a commodity and it does so in the same proportion in which it produces commodities in general.
This fact simply means that the object that labour produces, its product, stands opposed to it as something alien, as a power independent of the producer …. The realization of labour is its objectification. In the sphere of political economy, this realization of labour appears as a loss of reality for the worker, objectification as loss of and bondage to the object, and appropriation as estrangement, as alienation.
So much does the realization of labour appear as loss of reality that the worker loses his reality to the point of dying of starvation. So much does objectification appear as loss of the object that the worker is robbed of the objects he needs most not only for life but also for work. Work itself becomes an object which he can only obtain through an enormous effort and with spasmodic interruptions. So much does the appropriation of the object appear as estrangement that the more objects the worker produces the fewer can he possess and the more he falls under the domination of his product, of capital ….
The Estrangement of Labour
Up to now, we have considered the estrangement, the alienation of the worker, only from one aspect—i.e., the worker's relationship to the products of his labour. But estrangement manifests itself not only in the result, but also in the act of production, within the activity of production itself. After all, the product is simply the resume of the activity, of the production. So if the product of labour is alienation, production itself must be active alienation, the alienation of activity, the activity of alienation. The estrangement of the object of labour merely summarizes the estrangement, the alienation in the activity of labour itself.
What constitutes the alienation of labour?
Firstly, the fact that labour is external to the worker—i.e., does not belong to his essential being; that he, therefore, does not confirm himself in his work, but denies himself, feels miserable and not happy, does not develop free mental and physical energy, but mortifies his flesh and ruins his mind. Hence, the worker feels himself only when he is not working; when he is working, he does not feel himself. His labour is, therefore, not voluntary but forced, it is forced labour. It is, therefore, not the satisfaction of a need but a mere means to satisfy needs outside itself. Its alien character is clearly demonstrated by the fact that as soon as no physical or.

The end of the Civil War left the United States in tatters. The southern states that had seceded from the Union in the interests of preserving the right to own slaves were devastated economically from four years of war. The northern states that had emerged as victors in the Civil War also had suffered. The task that faced the nation was not only one of reuniting two constituencies who had bitterly fought one another but also of finding a way to heal. The healing, many says, is still continuing.
We will reflect on the process of healing a divided nation in this brief essay. Please do the following:
Complete the module’s assigned readings, and view the assigned video presentations.
Write an essay of 250-500 words (1-2 pages, typewritten and double-spaced) that connects the thoughts that President Obama shared with the nation in his
2013 Inaugural Address
with the primary source documents from Voices of Freedom and Foner Online.
Focus the essay around these questions:
In what ways did the 13

amendments to the Constitution initiate a “more perfect union”?
How is the nation more united in 2016 than it was in 1865?
How is the nation more divided today than at the end of the Civil War?
Please end with a reflection on what you think could be done to realize the vision that Obama evokes in his inaugural address.
When completing this writing assignment be sure to address the roles that different societal institutions such as governmental bodies, military forces, businesses, and churches played in America during this time period and how the dynamics of race, gender, class, and religion informed the development of American institutions.

The emergence of modern science began as a move from theological-bas.docxhe45mcurnow
The emergence of modern science began as a move from theological-based reasoning to observational- and empirically-based reasoning. Two areas of reasoning evolved from this time, inductive and deductive. For example, Galileo, using mathematics and observation, explained the laws of the physical world through deductive reasoning. Francis Bacon, however, sought answers to questions of the physical world through observation and devised many theories from these observations. Cartesian dualism is one school of thought that examined the mind-body relationship. Several branches of scientific thought developed which was based in part on the philosophical underpinnings of the region (e.g. British, French and German). These included positivism, rationalism, and empiricism. From these philosophical views emerged a focus on understanding behavior or more precisely the mind.
Compare and contrast the views of Galileo and Bacon. Explain why these two scientists had an impact on the development of psychology.
Compare the basic principles of Rene Descartes, Immanuel Kant, and John Locke. How do these principles differ in their perspectives of the mind-body relationship? What do these principles add to the comprehensive understanding of psychology as a science?
Explain the cultural and even nationalistic influences on how the different schools of thought developed (positivism, rationalism, and empiricism)? Explain how theological or religious beliefs influence the different schools of thought as they had done to the philosophical views of early centuries?
Justify your answers with appropriate research and reasoning. Comment on the postings of at least two peers. Provide an analysis of each peer’s postings while also suggesting specific additions or clarifications for improving the discussion question response.

The Dynamic Earth Research Paper Assignment
This is to be a research-based paper in which you explore a specific aspect of an Earth science topic in more detail than is covered in the class. You are to find out what the experts think about the topic and report on the rationale for their understanding, that is, upon what experimental and observational evidence and logic do they base their conclusions.
You can choose any topic of interest to you that is related to the Earth science topics that we covered in class. However make sure that it is specific enough that you can cover it well in the paper. This should not be a general overview paper. Some sample topics are listed at the end, but you are not limited to these topics.
Your thesis in the paper should be supported by facts obtained from research. A minimum of four sources must be used. They should include at least one book other than the textbook or other reference book (either in print or in electronic format from the library database) or an article from peer-reviewed academic journals. Web-based materials should come from credible sources. University-related and government agency websites generally have credible scientific information, while personal and business-related sites should be treated with healthy skepticism. Although you may not find books that directly addresses the issue about which you are writing, you may find one that addresses necessary background or general supporting information about your topic. Reference material (e.g. encyclopedias, dictionaries, your textbook) do not count toward your four references, although you are welcome to use them.
You should credit your sources whenever you quote from or paraphrase a source. Additionally, you should always cite your source for any statements made in the essay that are not general knowledge (because you presumably obtained them from one of your sources). For instance if you state that 98 percent of all the fish in the ocean are green, you will want to cite your source.
A bibliography page, or works cited page, should be located on a separate page immediately following the body of your essay. It should contain the list of works used listed alphabetically by last name of lead author. Although I will not be extremely picky about the formatting of the works cited page, I do expect all the information needed to locate each source, and I expect it to roughly follow
the standard formatting used in composition classes. Be sure to include the date of access for URL’s.
The paper should be 5-8 pages long, typewritten, double spaced, and written in a standard (and legible) font (12 point Times New Roman for example). It is to be submitted electronically via Isidore, where it will be checked by Turnitin.com. The paper is due by the end of the last day of class (12/9/2016).
Sample topics:

The Distinction Between Leadership and Management
Think of the managers you have reported to thus far in your career. Now consider the people you have worked with or know of that you would consider leaders. Based on these experiences, what would you surmise about the responsibilities of managers and leaders and about the distinctions between these two categories in health care settings?
This week’s Learning Resources classify management and leadership (which are often confused in everyday discussion) and explain their significance for health care organizations. As you advance professionally, it is critical to understand the distinctions between management and leadership and how you can apply this knowledge for increasing effectiveness in your workplace.
To prepare:

The diversity of the U.S. population has changed significantly over .docxhe45mcurnow
The diversity of the U.S. population has changed significantly over the past decade, and more shifts are expected over the next 20 years. Some examples include: 1) construction firms are employing a large number of Hispanic/Latinos and they must adapt their recruiting, training, and safety practices to reflect this diversity in their workforce; 2) Harley-Davidson increased the number of minority and women managers and workers by 20% over the past decade which has resulted in more African America, Latino, and women customers; 3) long-haul trucking companies are focusing on recruiting and training women to counter an expected shortage of 111,000 drivers by 2016.
Questions for Discussion: Post to the Forums by midnight Thursday and respond to at least 2 members of the class by midnight, Sunday of the week using critical analysis and scholarly discussions.
1. What do you think are the major reasons that more organizations are recruiting a diverse workforce?
2. What are some ways that recruiting would be done differently to attract more African Americans? Latinos? Women?

The Dual Nature of InformaticsInformatics can be used for impr.docxhe45mcurnow
The document discusses the dual nature of informatics, which refers to how informatics can improve health outcomes for individual patients through tools like EHRs and CDS at the point of care, and also for groups of patients through data warehousing and mining of patient information in EHRs. It provides a scenario about a patient, Mrs. Jones, presenting with dizzy spells and nausea, and prompts the reader to consider what information should be collected from Mrs. Jones and how it could help her care and be aggregated to help other similar patients.
The documents created at the inception of American democracy trace t.docxhe45mcurnow
The documents created at the inception of American democracy trace their lineage to the Magna Carta signed by King John of England in 1215. The Magna Carta was written by King John’s Barons to protect their rights and property from the King. They forced the King to affix his seal to the document under threat of civil war. The American colonists believed they were the inheritors of those rights from the King of England and as a result the Magna Carta was an inspiration for the American Revolution. Thomas Jefferson, in the Declaration of Independence, wrote about every man’s fundamental right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The framers of the United States Constitution sought to design a system of government that would help make the ideals of the Declaration of Independence a reality. Today, United States Supreme Court justices refer to the Constitution as “the supreme law of the land” for guidance as they attempt to adjudicate modern-day conflicts. Much of the influence and authority of the Supreme Court rests in the interpretation of the original concepts and principles of the Constitution.
To prepare for this Discussion:
Review the Declaration of Independence in this week’s Learning Resources. Focus on the democratic principles outlined in the document.
Review the transcript of the Constitution of the United States in this week’s Learning Resources. Consider the relationship between the principles summarized in the Constitution and those detailed in the Declaration of Independence.
Review the article “Magna Carta and Its American Legacy” in this week’s Learning Resources. Think about how the Magna Carta influenced concepts and principles in founding documents of democracy.
Peruse the Supreme Court of the United States website and review arguments for current cases.
Select a democratic concept or principle that is represented in the Declaration of Independence and/or the Constitution.
Think about where and how your selection appears in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution, and how it might be used by a Supreme Court justice in a Supreme Court case. If you live outside the United States, how do you think this democratic principle might affect the court system in your country?
With these thoughts in mind:
Post by Day 4
an analysis of the democratic concept or principle represented in the Declaration of Independence and/or the Constitution you selected for this Discussion and an explanation of why you selected it.Explain how the concept or principle might be used by a Supreme Court justice in a modern-day Supreme Court case to adjudicate a current conflict.
Be sure to support your postings and responses with specific references to the Learning Resources.

There are many ways in which technology is affecting the production, distribution, and appreciation of films. For example, think of how CGI, animation, and other advances in digital technology have changed the ways in which stories are told on film. Then, consider how the Internet has changed the way we access, evaluate, and discuss films.
Choose a film and discuss the importance of technological advancements to its success as a mode of storytelling. How might it have been told differently, for better or worse, without these technological advancements?

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

How to Manage Reception Report in Odoo 17Celine George
A business may deal with both sales and purchases occasionally. They buy things from vendors and then sell them to their customers. Such dealings can be confusing at times. Because multiple clients may inquire about the same product at the same time, after purchasing those products, customers must be assigned to them. Odoo has a tool called Reception Report that can be used to complete this assignment. By enabling this, a reception report comes automatically after confirming a receipt, from which we can assign products to orders.
