1. Unit 13: Assignment 1 – Digital graphics technology
Introduction:
This report will be about digital graphics technology and the differences between vector and
bitmap images. I will be talking about the factors that affect the quality of images such as
width and height. The type of file it is such as .png, .jpeg and such. And what programs they
are made of.
What are digital graphics?
Digital graphics is the conception of agenda images, about from a concrete scene. The
appellation is generally affected to betoken or accommodate the processing, compression,
storage, printing, and affectation of such images. The best accepted adjustment is by
agenda photography with an agenda camera but added methods are additionally employed.
Bitmap:
Bitmap images are made of pixels; their resolution is dependant meaning they cannot be
resized without losing image quality. They are usually in the format of JPEG, JPG, Gif, and
PNG. Common bitmap programs are: Paint and Photoshop. They are usually used in
photographs and paintings.
The disadvantages of bitmap images are that they cannot be upwards scaled without losing
image quality. Another disadvantage is that they need to have a really high resolution to
have a smooth looking appearance.
The positive side of bitmap images are that they:
Can be made easily with design software like Microsoft paint. Or even taking a
picture and scanning it into a program.
Cost effective so you don’t need much money to generate a bitmap image.
Don’t take up much space when outputting.
The programs used are usually Paint and Photoshop. One can be paid for and the other has
a non-subscription application. Photoshop is complex and is made by Adobe and costs
around $150 to buy a licence for it. And for Microsoft paint you can get it free as it is a built
in app in most Computers, Laptops and even some Tablets.

2. Vector:
Vector images are made of lines and points; they are based of mathematical
expressions and each point has a position on the x and y axis. Vector images
can be scaled and resized without losing clarity or resolution. Resolutionindependent. They can be printed at any resolution.
