Music and sound
Genre: Romance - Silver linings play book
the type of music that is used in this trailer, is that it is upbeat it shows that the character is
really motivational and wants to prove to people that he is capable of living with his illness
and that he can try his best to control it. There is also happy music which describes the
feeling of the character falling in love with a girl this shows that they are falling in love.
This is used because the music connects with the audience which makes them feel as if they
are drawn inside the trailer. This is something which makes people ant to watch it because
music isn’t always why movie trailers are made. They much rather watch the trailer and see
how good it is. If the music is nice and powerful then people would definitely want to go and
see it in the cinema.
This appeals to the target audience because it makes them feel emotional and excited because
it describes the feeling of the character. There are certain scenes where the trailer has certain
scenes where the atmosphere is happy and yet sad at the same time.
We can hear the beats of a drum playing in the beginning this becomes more upbeat as the
sound progresses. This sounds very motivational. Some of the sounds that are used are very
distinct as the music is very quiet but builds up.
Some parts of the trailer, it shows that at dinner, the sound of the music is very quiet but then
progressively it gets louder as this builds up tension to show what will happen next in the
trailer. Another part of the trailer would be that when the two characters are dancing the
sound of the music is very loud and is very upbeat.
The use of silence that is used in this trailer is when the character starts to talk. Each time a
person talks the music isn’t played as it is silence in the background and all you can hear is a
conversation. It also shows that there is silence but gradually the music gets louder.
The structure of the trailer shows that each clip lasts up to around 20 seconds allowing the
trailer makers to quickly skip to the next clip. The editing of the trailer looks very sharp and
professional and it also looks like a lot of effort and thinking went into making this trailer.
What I have learnt from this research is that music and sound is the key when making a trailer
because it should suit the atmosphere around it or it wouldn’t look to good.

Techniques: The techniques I will be using for this is the internet. This is
because I have watched a trailer of a romance movie which allows
me to analyse the
Type of music and sound that were used in the trailer.

the questions to the best of my ability because these all had to be

Genre: Romance – The Notebook
The type of music that is used in this trailer was a classical music from the 1940’s, this felt
heart-warming as there was a typical man and women who fall in love. But also showing how
their love grows through out the classical music playing.
This is used because the target audience could feel the emotions as both couple get together
and slowly start falling for each other. It is typical narrative convention of romance films that
the couple will be faced with obstacles, of which they will have to overcome. The obstacle in
The Notebook is the fact that she cannot make a go off her relationship as her mother doesn’t
approve of her relationship with him because she is an upper class girl where he isn’t, This
makes the audience feel like they should be together or the saying ‘they were meant to be
together’. The audience also want to see who she gets with whether she gets married or not,
who is the love of her dreams?
The sort of sounds that I can hear is the sounds of the music playing. In the beginning of the
trailer there’s a bike bell ringing, laughter, which shows that there are two couple laughing
and having a good time while riding the bike.
In the beginning of the trailer there is happy cheery music which makes the audience’s mood
feel good. The trailer will show the negatives and positive side of the trailer leaving the
audience thinking if the movie will be good or bad.
In this particular trailer there is no silence used because the only sound that was used was an
old classical tune being played throughout.
What I have learnt from this trailer is that there are not many music in the trailer and there is
only one song playing throughout.

Genre: Romance – The Vow
There is no music in the beginning but the only type of music that is coming out is from the
car. After that scene there is onl;y beeping noises which you can only hear at hospitals.then a
sad piece of music comes on when paige finds out that she is engaged but she doesnt
remember same song keeps on going until it gets silence when they are both changing their
clothes.then the song changes to something else. Finally towards the end of the trailer a song
comes on which is hoppy and sounds as if something is coming together. This is used
because it shows the audience that pieces of music can change a mood of a person and how
they are feeling.
The affects this has on the audience is that we think that something good will come out of the
reklationship this is because we the audience can tell theat Paige has forgotten who her
husband is and starts falling in love with her ex boyfriend instead, making Leo jelous.
In the beginning of the trailer it starts off with a happy couple laughing and slowly it starts to
go downfall when the noises of the bleeps come from the hospital.
The sort of sounds that I can hear in this trailer is the music playing in the background, there
is laughter in the beginning of the trailer where paige is laughing at her husband leo. Theres a
crashing noise when the couple get hit by a truck. Soon after that there is lots of beeping
noises which is coming from the hospital where paige is laying in bed saying she's in pain.
The use of silence is used when the couple are about to kiss but then everything stops and
goes silence because they are hit by a truck. It is also quite silence when Leo says that he
wants to fall in love with his wife again. You cant forget your first love. What I have learnt
from this trailer is that there where less music which makes the target audience focused on
the two couple instead of listening to the music in the background.
