1. I have beenaskedtocomplete anassignment,whichistoproduce a short radioprogramme fora
local radiostation.Inthis radioshowI will be discussingextra-curricularoptionsforstudentsat
school.The headof the radiostationisparticularlyinterestedinhearingfromyoungpeople soIhave
beenaskedtoinclude aninterviewwithastudentinmyradioprogramme.
Before I start the productionof myradioprogramme I have conducted researchona well-
established radioshowhostedbyNickGrimshaw.Ididthistofurtherunderstandwhatmakesa
goodradio show.Ilookedintothe conventionsof radioprogrammes;jingles,broadcasttime,how
manypeople listentothe showregularly,whattype of musictheyuse,how manypeople of myage
(17) listen,the productionprocess,targetaudience, are anygueststarsfeatured,are they
sponsored,whattheytalkabout,whatothershowstopeople prefer,peoplesopinionsonthe show,
whattheydiscusson the show,dotheyhave a co-host. Ialso lookedintothingssuchas;do theyuse
productplacementontheirshows,howmuchthe show makes,how manysongstheyplay,how they
speak(formallyorinformally)andfinallywhatmakestheirshow suitable fortheirtargetaudience.
Hopefullyconductingthisresearchwill give me amore indepthknowledge onradioshowsandwill
make the productionof my radioshoweasier.
At the beginningawill have anup-beatjingle thatwill appeal tomytargetaudience. Iwill use astyle
of musicsuchas hiphop that ispopularamongst my age group whichismy targetaudience. The
jingle isimportantbecause it’sthe firstthingyouhearwhenyoutune intomyradioprogramme.In
additiontoappeal the targetaudience anyone speakinginthe programme will speakin-formallyto
the audience canrelate more to the show.Overall Ithinktoshow shouldbe editedsoit’sfastpaced
so the audience staysinterested.
The technical requirementsIwill have tomeetare;successfullyfadinginandoutdifferentaudio
clips, the qualityof the radio showhas tobe of highstandard to dothisI will use condenserand
dynamicmics,I will have toaddeffectstomake the recordingssoundmore professional e.g.
Compressor,whichmakesthe loudpartsquietandthe quietpartslouder,andEQ. whichadds some
highfrequenciesto the audiotomake it soundclearerandfinallyIneedtomix the audiolevelsso
they’re all the same level.
The contentin myshowwill be aboutextra-curricularactivities.Sometimeduringthe radio
programme someone frommygroup will interview someone fromHaverstockSchool aswell asa
teacher.We will brief the teacheronhisexperienceswithextra-curricularactivitiese.g.doeshe host
any anddoeshe approve of them.We will alsogive factsandstatisticsonextra-curricularactivities.
If everythinggoestoplanandI include everythingIhave mentionedinthisreportIshouldhave a
successful radioprogramme thatappealstomytarget audience.
