Gokhale Education Society’s College of Education and Research, Parale (E) branch has
organized Pre Ph.D. course work for its research students in three courses. There were total
18 students who were the part of this pre Ph.D. course work; out of which 16 were Gokhale
college’s research students and two were from Chambur comprehensive college. Dr. Indira
Shukla, Principal of Gokhale college of education and research was the course director.
Dr.Shilpa Waghcoure was the course coordinator. The pre Ph.D. course work was consisted
of three courses – Research Methodology in Education, Statistical Techniques and Computer
Application in Educational Research and Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research. All the
courses were well planned and systematically organized. Appropriate resource persons were
arranged for the topics in which they are mater.
Pre-Ph.D. Course – 1 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY IN EDUCATION
The first course of Pre-Ph.D. course work was of 8 days from 5th
July, 2014 to 12th
July,
2014. The Pre-Ph.D. course work was inaugurated by Dr. Indira Shukla, Principal of Gokhale
college of education & research and the research guide of the centre on 5th
July, 2014. She
welcomed all the research students and gave her warm wishes for the new journey into which
all the fresh research students were going to enter. She gave an overview of the pre Ph.D.
course work and highlighted its importance to all. It was followed by the orientation to Pre
Ph.D. course which was done by the course coordinator Dr.Shilpa Waghchoure. She oriented
about the timing of the course and compulsory attendance in the course. She highlighted the
objectives of the pre Ph.D course.
Post lunch session on 5th
July, 2014 was on Sampling – concept of universe and sample,
determining sample size and techniques of sampling (probability and non-probability
sampling) which was taken by Dr.SarikaSawant. She has made the term sampling clear to all
of us. She has also cleared the concepts universe/ population, sample, sampling, sampling
frame, randomization and representativeness. She also talked about the types of sampling
techniques – stratified sampling, systematic random sampling, and cluster random sampling.
The day one ended with the preparation of assignments. Dr.ShilpaWaghcoure took us to the
computer lab and made us aware of various website for surfing research abstracts which
helped us a lot in the preparation of our assignments as well as proposal.

Page 1 of 6 REPORT OF PRE Ph.D. COURSE Gokhale Education Society’s College of Education and Research, Parale (E) branch has organized Pre Ph.D. course work for its research students in three courses. There were total 18 students who were the part of this pre Ph.D. course work; out of which 16 were Gokhale college’s research students and two were from Chambur comprehensive college. Dr. Indira Shukla, Principal of Gokhale college of education and research was the course director. Dr.Shilpa Waghcoure was the course coordinator. The pre Ph.D. course work was consisted of three courses – Research Methodology in Education, Statistical Techniques and Computer Application in Educational Research and Qualitative and Mixed Methods Research. All the courses were well planned and systematically organized. Appropriate resource persons were arranged for the topics in which they are mater. Pre-Ph.D. Course – 1 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY IN EDUCATION The first course of Pre-Ph.D. course work was of 8 days from 5th July, 2014 to 12th July, 2014. The Pre-Ph.D. course work was inaugurated by Dr. Indira Shukla, Principal of Gokhale college of education & research and the research guide of the centre on 5th July, 2014. She welcomed all the research students and gave her warm wishes for the new journey into which all the fresh research students were going to enter. She gave an overview of the pre Ph.D. course work and highlighted its importance to all. It was followed by the orientation to Pre Ph.D. course which was done by the course coordinator Dr.Shilpa Waghchoure. She oriented about the timing of the course and compulsory attendance in the course. She highlighted the objectives of the pre Ph.D course. Post lunch session on 5th July, 2014 was on Sampling – concept of universe and sample, determining sample size and techniques of sampling (probability and non-probability sampling) which was taken by Dr.SarikaSawant. She has made the term sampling clear to all of us. She has also cleared the concepts universe/ population, sample, sampling, sampling frame, randomization and representativeness. She also talked about the types of sampling techniques – stratified sampling, systematic random sampling, and cluster random sampling. The day one ended with the preparation of assignments. Dr.ShilpaWaghcoure took us to the computer lab and made us aware of various website for surfing research abstracts which helped us a lot in the preparation of our assignments as well as proposal.
