5. About the industry
 Maruti Suzuki India Limited commonly referred to
as Maruti and formerly known as Maruti Udyog
Limited is an automobile manufacturer in India.
 It is a subsidiary of Japanese automobile and
motorcycle manufacturer Suzuki.
 Maruti Suzuki manufactures and sells a complete
range of cars from the entry level to the
hatchback and sedans and , in the 'C' segment,
Multi Purpose vehicle Suzuki and Sports Utility
vehicle.

 Maruti Suzuki has two manufacturing facilities in
India. Both manufacturing facilities have a
combined production capacity of 14,50,000
vehicles annually.
 As of November 2012, it had a market share of
37% of the Indian passenger car markets

7. Problem in the product
 Launched in February 2012, the new Swift Dzire is
the second largest selling car in the country. The
company manufactures over 1.5 lakh units of the car
every year. Incidentally, about 1,492 units of Dzire,
Swift, Ertiga and A-Star were recalled to rectify a
potential problem that could have occurred with the
steering column.
 In one of the biggest-ever car recall for a single model
in the country, market leader Maruti Suzuki has
initiated the process of recalling around 1 lakh units of
its hot-selling compact sedan Swift Dzire.
 The recall list includes models manufactured in 2013
and 2014 and these will be pulled off the road in
batches to replace a defective component.

 These models have a defective fuel neck filler
connected to the fuel tank. The supplier of the
defective component is JBM, in which Maruti
Suzuki has 29.28-per cent stake.

9. Solution of the problem
 While the company officials declined to comment,
neither confirming nor denying the development,
 industry sources said the firm has initiated
replacement of the faulty fuel neck filler, which is
connected to the fuel tank, in unsold units at
dealerships.
 The senior floor manager of a West Delhi-based
Maruti showroom confirmed that Dzire cars sold up
to 10 days ago are being recalled for changing the
defective component.

 Despite growing competition in the entry level
sedan segment, Maruti Swift Dzire retained its top
position in the Indian market. And not just that,
Maruti Swift Dzire has emerged as the top-selling
car in the month .
 The company sold a total of 18,634 units of the
Swift Dzire in July 2014,
