3. poster
To finalize my poster I looked through other album posters from my genre
(rock), this enabled me to understand the typical codes and conventions of
the genre. The codes and conventions are: the image is typically very dark,
edgy and not to much information of the band, typically there is a band photo
and also the symbol for the album.
I took this on board and when doing the photoshoot we made sure the band
were mainly wearing dark clothing with a small amount of colour just so they
didn't blend into the black background. We also had them looking very
serious down at the camera. We used a low angle shot so that it would make
them look more powerful than they are, connoting that the album has an
amazing and very powerful feel to it. These camera angles are seen very
often within the genre of rock this shows the shots were conventional.
I also used a logo that I created which is a W and a T merged together as it is
the initial's of the band and also the logo is the logo representing the band
and the album. However within this poster the logo is the thing I wanted to
stand out as this is the logo of the album that is being advertised, for this I
used a dark and light blue galaxy colour the same as the inside of the DIGI
pack that is shown later in the PowerPoint.
The reviews that are on the poster are also follow conventions as they are
from rock magazines this is the same genre as the album this means these
magazines are known for reviewing rock music.
There are also social media links in at the bottom of the page this is so that
the audience get to see and find out more about the band.
6. DIGIpack
This is my final DIGI pack idea, i used the text RINGBEARER this font had a
rock genre vibe to it as it was slightly distorted, it created more of an edgy feel
to the album as the lettering of the watchmen would be the first thing anyone
sees.
I wanted my front cover and my back cover to be very plain and dark so that
when you open it the dark galaxy blue colours pop out and make eye
catching this idea was taken from the number 1 album 'that's the spirit' by
Bring Me The Horizon. Their album was black on the outside on the front and
back however when opened it showed an oil spill print that had very vibrant
colours inside. The reason of the copied idea was because they are within the
same genre as the watchmen and have the same kind of sound. It also
creates a unique dramatic feel to the DIGI packs look. It also makes the
album more interesting to look at.
I also created a logo for the band which is the W and the T overlapped
creating an awesome logo to place on the CD and the inside of the DIGI
pack, creating a symbol the band will be remembered by. The image i have
used follows the rock genre as the costumes used are very dark and the
people in them where made to look very serious creating a very rock style to
the image.
I also included the record label the band is under and a copyright claim these
are essential to the DIGI pack as the band would not have legal rights to the
songs if this was not there.
9. conclusion
To conclude my ancillary texts were a helpful way to keep
the ideas and themes for the end product of our music
video, this ment that the conventions of the rock genre and
the style of both my ancillary texts and the final product both
had the same themes and styles like the use of the low key
lighting and the use of low angle shots. This shows
consistency and that both the final product and the ancillary
texts are part of the same thing. The fact the album cover
image was captured in the same room as the music video
makes the two instantly recognisable and makes both
products work well together. The positioning and costume of
the performers was very conventional of the genre as the
long shaggy hair and ripped jeans create a very clear rock
style to the band and the positioning is typical to genre as
the lead singer is furthest forward showing he is the front
man and the rest of the bandbehind him as they are the
rest of the band.
