Disequilibrium- the status quo is disrupted by an event.
Equilibrium- is restored at the end of the story by the actions of the hero.
• Propp- This is a form of structuralism, which is a view that all media is inevitably in the
form of certain fixed structures.
• Levi-Strauss- Narrative theory claims that all narrative structures can be shown as a
series of binary oppositions. This specifically focuses on themes within the narrative.

Barthes’ ideas explored a diverse range of fields and he influenced the development of
schools of theory including structuralism, semiotics, social theory, anthropology and post-
structuralism.
• Define them and apply them to your story line
and if they don’t apply explain why
6. Audience theory in your
marketing strategy
• The hypodermic needle theory - This is is a model of communications which suggests that an
intended message is directly received and wholly accepted by the receiver. The model is rooted in
1930s behaviorism and is largely considered obsolete today.
• Uses and gratifications theory- Is an approach to understanding why people actively seek out
specific media outlets and content for gratification purposes. The theory discusses how users proactively
search for media that will not only meet a given need but enhance knowledge, social interactions and
diversion .
• T
Two step flow theory-These researchers expected to find empirical support for the direct
influence of media messages on voting intentions. They were surprised to discover, however, that
informal, personal contacts were mentioned far more frequently than exposure to radio or newspaper
as sources of influence on voting behavior.
• Reception theory-A basic acceptance of the meaning of a specific text tends to occur when a
group of readers have a shared cultural background and interpret the text in similar ways. It is likely that
the less shared heritage a reader has with the artist, the less he/she will be able to recognize the artist's
intended meaning, and it follows that if two readers have vastly different cultural and personal
experiences, their reading of a text will vary greatly.
• Define them and apply them to your story line
7. Applying the Narrative theory's to our story
• Todorov theory applies to our story as we have already shown you.
