‘Obsession’ – Web Series Script
EPISODE 1
John Doe - His P.O.V. is in black and white except everything he is obsessed with. E.g.
the roses that he buys her are red. However to everyone else they are dead and
decrepit. However when we changed perspectives it is all in colour and the roses
are now dead and wilted – everything in the killer’s world is in black and white
except the images of the girls and the things that he sees beauty in. – as the episode
progresses and she rejects him, his gestures become more and more angry.
Opening scene:
JOHN DOE’S ROOM
Establishing shot of the killer; John Doe staring at a wall of images pinned on a
board. His back is facing the camera producing a dark silhouette around his
figure– only source of light coming from board full of he’s victims and the source
of his obsession (some crossed out in red and some not – images created using
green screen.)
Picks up a photo, which is not crossed out and touches the girls (Kaitlyn’s) face
creepily. (All from John Doe’s P.O.V.)
Scene 1:
RURAL FARMLAND PATHWAY
Kaitlyn is walking home and we use a long shot to show that he is merely
watching her as she walks and laughs with her friends.
Scene 2:
RURAL FARMLAND PATHWAY – CONTINUED -
Kaitlyn splits up with friends, she continues on walking – she begins to get
nervous as she feels as if someone’s watching her – she hears a branch snap, she
jumps and her movements become more erratic – she quickens her pace home.
Scene 3:
KAITLYN’S HOUSE - LIVING ROOM
Later in the evening she is on her computer with her back and the screen is
facing the French door windows – she catches the killers reflection in the
computer screen and freezes – she slowly turns round only to see nothing
through the window – at the same time the door bell goes and the girl jumps –
KAITLYN
Screams…
- She shakes her head and mumbles about being silly and tired.
KAITLYN
(Speech Improvisation)
Scene 4:
KAITLYN’S HOUSE - HALLWAY
Kaitlyn moves to answer the door, slowly edging the door open – (focus upon the
sounds of her breathing slowly reaching a high peak).
Scene 5:
KAITLYN’S ROAD – HOUSE VIEW
Cut to the John Doe’s P.O.V of him standing directly underneath a street lamp
watching and slightly hunch over, watching her bend down and pick up a flower
box.
Scene 6:
KAITLYN’S ROAD – STREET VIEW
Cut to the Kaitlyn’s P.O.V – Kaitlyn bends down to pick up the red box, slowly
coming back up she opens lid and looks bewildered and slightly freaked out.
(3rd person P.O.V) Kaitlyn walks back into the house and closes the door. She
walks into the kitchen and disposes of the flower and puts it in the bin. John Doe
is standing outside the back door watching her. His expression becomes
aggravated - (as he slowly become more angry from the rejection).
Scene 7:
FLASHBACK SCENE
Flashback effect of John Doe and his previous girlfriend rejecting him (when he
was alive)
JOHN DOE
(Begging, voice desperate) - Improvisation
JANE DOE
(Aggravated, exasperated) - Improvisation
Flashback ends
Scene 8:
JOHN DOE’S ROOM
Close up of John Doe. John Doe opens his eyes looking directly at the camera.
Establishing shot. John doe is back in his room, frustrated, he angrily he rips up
the images of his ex (Jane Doe). His eye catches a glimpse of a photo of his new
victim, Kaitlyn, whom he is stalking at the currently.
John Doe’s action from the opening scene is repeated – in which he caress the
image of the girl, his body and posture seeming to relax again (the anger draining
out) as a creepy calmness comes across him.
Scene 9:
KAITLYN’S HOUSE – OUTSIDE LOOKING IN
John Doe arrives back at the house to find Kaitlyn with her boyfriend – they are
intimately embraced, sitting on the sofa with her hands around his neck laughing
with each other. (This is the stressor)
John Doe is standing outside the French windows again, breathing heavily onto
the windows (The glass fogs up). The scene before his eyes angers him and
causes a light bulb to explode.
KAITLYN
Screams…
Kaitlyn screams while the guy shields her from the glass. The tension subsides as
Eric (the boyfriend) begins to laugh after shrugging it off.
Scene 10:
KAITLYN’S HOUSE - HALLWAY
Kaitlyn walks Eric to the front door. As they lean in to kiss, Kaitlyn stumbles back
as if she had been pushed and the front door slams. She panics and tries to open
the door.
KAITLYN
Screams… (Improvisation – calling for help, panicking etc.)
ERIC
(Improvisation – calmly talking to Kaitlyn; as tension rises his voice gets louder and
more panicked)
Kaitlyn is screaming to Eric while he tries to calm her down and open the door
from the other side. She tells him to go round to the back. He barges through the
front gate and goes round to the French doors.
Scene 11:
KAITLYN’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM
Kaitlyn runs towards the French doors trying to unlock them but fumbles out of
fear. Eric is also trying to open them from the other side.
ERIC
(Improvisation – panicking, talking to Kaitlyn)
KAITLYN
Screaming at Eric for help (Improvisation)
Eric pales and looks straight behind her to where John Doe is standing. Kaitlyn
freaks out and slowly turns to look behind her.
Scene 12:
KAITLYN’S HOUSE – LIVING ROOM – CONTINUED -
Kaitlyn slowly turns to find no one there.
The lights go out, abruptly she turns to face the doors and Eric. The lights come
back on and the John Doe is now right in front of her (low angle shot to show his
dominance and her fear)
Scene goes to black
End of episode
