Municipal
- City & town governments are called municipal
governments
- Headed by elected mayor (executive branch)
o Lioneld Jordan
- And governed by a city council (legislative branch)
- City and county governments provide a variety of services
to the citizens:
o Water treatment
o Police
o Fire protection
o Elections
o Garbage collection
o Etc…
County
- Arkansas is divided into 75 counties
- Executive branch is headed by a county judge
o Acts as a county manger with responsibilities similar
to a governor
- Legislative branch of county government is known as a
quorum court
o Elected group that determines county laws and
regulations
- The center of county operations is usually the largest city
in a county called the county seat

2. State
- The executive branch is led by the governor
o Mike Beebe
- Other state officials who serve in the state’s executive
branch are:
o Lieutenant Governor
o The Secretary of State
o The Attorney General
o Treasurer
o Auditor
o Etc…
- The state legislature or General Assembly has two
chambers
o The Senate
 Our representation on a national level
o The House of Representatives
 Our representation on a state level
 Elected officials that represent a area of the state
