2. WHAT KIND OF PERSON IS SHE AT THE BEGINNING?
Like Juliet’s mother or sister and best friend
Person Juliet finds comfort in
Knows everything in Juliet’s life
Always biased towards Juliet
Supportive of Juliet’s rash decision to marry Romeo
Helps Juliet continue her relationship with Romeo
3. WHAT KIND OF PERSON IS SHE AT THE END? WHAT
CAUSED THE CHANGES - A TURNING POINT?
Turning Point: When Romeo kills Tybalt
Stops supporting Juliet so much
Starts to look at what’s best for Juliet, not what she wants
Tells Juliet she should just give up on Romeo and marry Paris
Lost the most at the end, losing Juliet above already losing her child and husband
before working for the Capulets
4. WHAT IS THE MORAL LOW POINT AND THE MORAL
HIGH POINT FOR HER?
Moral low point: When she knows that the Capulets and Montagues are swore
enemies, and finds out about Romeo and Juliet’s relationship but still helps them in
continuing to pursue their love.
Moral high point: When she thinks about what is the best for Juliet instead of what
Juliet wants such as when she tells he maybe it’s the best if she marries Paris and
forgets about Romeo.
5. HOW MUCH IS SHE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS
TRAGEDY?
She has a pretty large responsibility for
this tragedy considering she was one of
the few people, who knew about it and
supported it. She helped Juliet many times
to communicate with Romeo and she did
not work to end their love, but to make it
blossom. Even though it looked like she
was doing a good deed, at the end of the
story, we all know Romeo and Juliet both
died due to their forbidden love.
6. WHAT SHOULD SHE HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY?
She could have and should have thought about what Romeo and Juliet’s forbidden love
could cost at the end. Would it really have worked out with the opposing families and all
the hatred towards each other? Was it really the best decision to let Juliet continue with
this love of hers, and more so even help her? The nurse just knows how to spoil Juliet
like she would spoil her own daughter, since her child died already. She should have sat
down with Romeo and Juliet and give them a lecture on the dangers of this romance, on
what could happen to them. If she did, then maybe this tragedy would not even have
occurred. Whatever choice the two lovers make, whether to run away or to stay and
face their families, it would have been done with more care and thought. Romeo
probably would not be banished from Verona, and this love story could have ended in a
happily ever after.
7. HOW WOULD THIS CHARACTER DRESS? WHAT
GENERAL STYLE OF CLOTHING WOULD SUIT HER?
The nurse would dress in simple colors and
fashion styles, unlike Juliet or Lady Capulet.
It would show her place in the household as
a nurse - not lower or higher. The general
style of clothing that would suit her would
be what nuns where today. Black and white,
with a sophisicated but yet simple look. It
would be easy to move in compared to
what the higher class families’ girls wear.
8. WHAT COLORS WOULD BEST REPRESENT HER?
WHY?
Yellow,
because it is the color of sunshine. It is
associated with joy, happiness, and energy.
The nurse is a very happy person who is
always helping Juliet with her many
problems. She is like Juliet’s shield to
everything bad in her life. Whenever the
Nurse appears, Juliet can find comfort in
her, the Nurse is Juliet’s sunshine. The best
color to represent her would be yellow.
9. WHAT IS ONE HAND PROP SHE WOULD USE OFTEN
OR BE ASSOCIATED TO? WHY?
A duster because she would walk around
the house all the time looking for chores
to complete and one of the on-going
chores she would do would be to dust
everything she passes. Also, when she’s
she’s communicating with Juliet, Lady
Capulet, etc. she would probably be busy
moving around the room dusting all the
counters, bookshelves, everything.
