Discussion:
How do tornadoes happen in the real world?
Tornadoes happen when two types of wind are trying to go in opposite
directions. The winds don’t want to bump into each other so they begin
to spin. When they spin, they first turn in a horizontal direction. But it is
still not a tornado. Tornadoes move in a vertical direction. This happens
whenan updraft (which is a humid, hot air) comes from the ground to
make thunderclouds. That humid hot air makes the tornado turn
vertical, so the air is spinning in a vertical tube. At last, the cool air
descends and makes the tornado go down to the ground, where it
destroys everything it touches.
Tornadoes spin at hundreds of kilometers per hous. They can be 2 to 10
km wide. They usually last for 10 to 15 min. Also, there is a scale called
the Fujita scale. It measures how fast the tornado is and how wide the
tornado is. It measures from F0 to F5(F for Fujita).People respond to
tornadoes by going to the basement or a storm shelter.
