Discussion:
How do tornadoes happen in the real world?
First, winds from opposite directions come together. They’re moving at
different speeds. They want to get past each other so they start spinning
in a horizontal way. Then the updraft takes the tornado up to the cloud
with some debris. The debris makes the tornadoes dark. In the cloud the
tornado becomes vertical and a downdraft pulls the tornado to the
ground where it start destroying things.
People now measure using the Fujita Scale. F0 means light. F4 means
devastating and F5 means Incredible. Tornadoes are 2-10 km wide.
While a taxi in Beijing usually goes up to 50km/h a tornado can go 100-
500 km/h. Most tornadoes last for about 10 minutes but strong
tornadoes can last for about 25 minutes. A tornado can cause up to 40
km of destruction. We also have World Weather Service. If there is going
to be a disaster, they might send out a warning via the TV and radio. If
there is a tornado we should hide in a basement or storm shelter.
