All questions must be completed thoroughly to receive approval for your Senior Project. Some
projects will be submitted to a committee for final approval. This form must be completed and
returned to your senior English teacher by Friday, August 17, 2012. You will not be allowed to
change your topic after October 12, 2012.
The Senior Project is subject to the plagiarism policies set forth by the district and Creekview
High School.
1) Describe the overall topic of your Senior Project.
The overall topic of my Senior Project is entrepreneurship, but it also includes a small
musical aspect.
2) What is your previous experience in this area of study?
My previous experience is drumline. I have been on the drumline for three years and am
currently doing my fourth. However, I have been a percussionist since sixth grade which
would give me a total of six years of experience.
3) To what career will you connect this project (required)?
My project will connect to Entrepreneurship. It could also connect to business or economics.
4) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. Write on the
back of this sheet if necessary.
I am going to, essentially, create my own, small company. I am going to make and sell drum
pads, which if you don’t know, are pads to make it easier for drummers to practice by
eliminating the hassle of transporting large drums or the complaints of angry parents about
the noise level. First, I am going to search for the best materials for the job. This will require
some trial and error, but I have already made a few and I seem to be close to the required
result. Then, I am going to set up advertisements, most likely flyers for around school and, if
allowed, in gas stations or music stores. I am also going to create a website, and talk to some
local music stores about selling my products. All the while, I will be making some pads. I
want to have some done in case more people are interested in buy than I had expected. Next,
I will really start making my product. As orders come in, I will make more and more,
offering different colors and sizes. Finally, if the business does well, I will offer special
orders, such as logos or multiple/different colors. I plan to put all profits toward my college
funds.
5) How is this project a “learning stretch” and a challenge for you?
2. This project will be a large “learning stretch” for me, because I am new to being an
entrepreneur. I hope to learn how economics works in a hands-on, real experience, way.
6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product, and how will you fund these costs?
The current costs of supplies are as follows:
Plywood: $28 for 1 piece, measuring 4ftx8ft (which makes 8-10 tenor pads, 30-32
snare pads, or 60-64 bass pads)
Doormat: $8 for 1, measuring 2ftx4ft (which makes 2-3 tenor pads, 7-8 snare pads, or
14-16 bass pads)
Liquid Nails: $4 for 1 tube (which will make 50-75 of a mixture of pads)
Wooden Dowel: $3 for 1, measuring 16ft in length (which makes 4-5 bass pads)
Paint: $20 for 1 can (which would make 20 tenor pads, 35-40 pads, or 30-35 bass
pads)
Clear Coat: $5 for 1 can (which makes 4-5 tenor pads, 7-8 snare pads, and 6-7 bass
pads)
This means that I could make one tenor pad for around $8, a snare pad for around $4, and a
bass pad for around $6.
My possible prices are as follows (factoring in the amount of labor I will put in)
Tenor Pad: $40
Snare Pad: $25
Bass Pad: $35
Therefore, I should be making $32 profit on any tenor pad sold, $21 profit on any snare pad
sold, and $29 profit on any bass pad sold.
7) Who have you chosen (or are considering choosing) as your Project Facilitator?
I am considering having two project facilitators. I am looking for someone with knowledge in
economics, Jim Lappe, and I am looking for someone with knowledge in percussion, possibly
a fellow student of Creekview High School, Nick McClure, who is 21.
8) What is this person’s expertise in this field?
My Jim Lappe is well informed in the field of economics. He would be able to help me make
the best profit and show me how I need to advertise or where to sell.
Nick McClure is an amazing percussionist and is very knowledgeable in that area. He would
be able to help me find the best materials for the job.
