Jobs in creative occupations increased 10.3 percent from 2008 – 2013.
Creative workers held 6,282 jobs in 2013, up 3%
from 2012 (6,111) and up 10% from 2008 (5,697).
Craft artists increased employment by 33%.
Jobs for Designers, musicians and fine artists
also increased.
National indicators of Creative Vitality show more activity in Asheville-Buncombe
County than in North Carolina and the United States.

Each person employed in a local creative industry will use a large portion of their earnings in the
community, leading to additional jobs attributable to the creative sector.
More than 2,000 independent artists, writers and performers held the most jobs in the creative
industries in Buncombe County. Other top employers in the Buncombe County creative industry
include historic sites, printing, graphic design, movie theaters, architects, photographers, art
dealers and advertising agencies.
Creative Sector jobs are less likely to be outsourced.

The arts provide a quality of life that contributes to a highly desirable place for businesses to
attract and keep skilled workers with a culture rich in history and the arts.
