1. Review of the Gospel Series
Why People Refuse to Believe in God (according to the Bible)
1. Their hearts are deceitful, wicked, darkened and hard.
2. They love sin and darkness; hate God and the light; want to be their own god.
3. They are alienated from God and His life.
4. Their minds are corrupt, they suppress the truth, their thinking is futile, they
are ignorant and are enemies in their minds.
5. They are not thankful.
6. They are prideful and arrogant.
7. They are blinded by Satan.
Why Unbelief? (general reasons)
1. Christians Behaving Badly
2. Bad Things Happen
3. Unmet Expectations
4. Father Problem
5. Social Pressures
6. Cost of Following Jesus
7. Sexual Immorality
Observation: Many of these “reasons” result from a wrong understanding of God.
It is not one’s thinking that keeps them from God but rather the issues in their heart.
Why Did Jesus Come?
Jesus didn't come to make bad people good but to make dead people alive!
Luke 19:10 (NIV)
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Luke 4:43 (NIV)
But he replied, “I must preach the Good News of the Kingdom of God in other towns,
too, because that is why I was sent.”
What is the Gospel?
The Heart of the Gospel
Christ died for our sins and rose again according to the scriptures. (1 Cor. 15:3-4)
Three Questions - Focus on Jesus
1. Why do we need Jesus?
2. What did Jesus do for us?
3. How do we receive salvation through Jesus?

• Wrath of God
• Eternal death

• Died on the cross

Why Do We Need Jesus?
What is Sin?
Begins with Unbelief (Satan works in our lives the same way he did Eve &
Adam)
1. Doubt God’s word
2. Doubt God’s character
3. Doubt God’s goodness and provision
4. Told to take control and be like God
How Sin Begins and What it Results in
1. Unbelief
2. Idolatry
3. Rebellion
4. Breaking God’s law
5. Denying God His glory
3. What are the Consequences of Sin?
1. If you die physically without Jesus you only have one thing to look forward to.
2. The Great White Throne Judgment
3. Hell, Lake of Fire, Gehenna (different terms of the same place)
4. Everlasting Punishment
5. It will burn everything around you so you have nothing. (my thoughts)
The Bible’s Description of Hell (from Charlie H. Campbell)
• Outer darkness (Matthew 25:30)
• Weeping (Matthew 8:12)
• Wailing (Matthew 13:42)
• Gnashing of teeth (Matthew 13:50)
• Flames (Luke 16:24)
• Everlasting fire (Matthew 25:41)
• A furnace of fire (Matthew 13:42)
• Separation from the righteous (Matthew 25:46)
• Eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord (2 Thessalonians 1:9)
• Torment (Luke 16:23)
• Everlasting punishment (Matthew 25:46)
• The lake of fire burning with brimstone (Revelation 19:20)
What Jesus Did For Us?
1. Born of a virgin and became a man
2. Sinless life
3. Sacrifice on the cross
4. Resurrection
C. S. Lewis
The Son of God became a man to enable men to become the sons of God.
What Jesus Accomplished for Us through His Life and Death
1. God’s justice and wrath were satisfied for our sin.
2. Paid the price for our sin.
3. Declared righteous and our sin forgiven.
4. Reconciled with God.
5. Adopted into the family of God.
What Jesus Accomplished for Us through His Resurrection
1. Proved He was the Son of God
2. Proved His victory over sin and death
3. Proved that resurrection is real
4. Proved He will judge the world with justice
5. Provided us with hope
What is that hope? To be reconciled to God through Jesus and live with Him forever.
How Do We Receive Salvation through Jesus?
Important to Know that Jesus is the Only Way
Why? Because only He took care of our sin problem by suffering the punishment for
it.
4. 1 John 5:11-12
And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He
who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
What Must We Do to be Rescued from Sin?
Acts 20:20-21 - Repentance and Faith
You know that I have not hesitated to preach anything that would be helpful to you
but have taught you publicly and from house to house. I have declared to both Jews
and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord
Jesus.
What is Repentance?
1. Conviction of Sin
2. Confession of Sin
3. Turning from sin to God
4. Restitution through Jesus
5. Restoration
What is Faith?
Belief → Trust → Embrace
Head → Heart → Action
What is Saving Faith?
1. Believing that the gospel is true and that Jesus is the Messiah.
2. Trusting in the gospel and Jesus, who is the object of faith.
3. Embracing the gospel and Jesus and living your life accordingly.
Summary: Rebellion Surrender Submission
Jesus is King of kings and Lord of lords and all those who are His submit to His rule
by trusting and obeying Him.
Paul Tripp
The fundamental difference between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of self is
captured by one question. Who resides at the center?
You are in rebellion against God and there is a price that has to be paid for it.
Someone will pay the price for your sins. Will it be YOU or JESUS?
