3. Details
The level of details in an Elmore Leonard novel
comes from research.
Elmore's legman scouts locations and does
research in libraries for authenticity.
Using the names and descriptions of real
locations help add a level of realism to the story.
4. The View
Elmore Leonard does not like to describe things
himself so he uses dialogue to give a more
personal view from the characters in his novels.
This style adds to the growth and connection to
the characters because the reader sees and
feels what they see and feel.
5. Heroes and Villians
Using ordinary people as the basis for his good
guys and bad guys Leonard picks occupations
that most people know about. In recent years
one of his most popular characters is a United
States Marshal. He also likes to use old school
type mobsters as his bad guys seeing that as a
child he found Bonnie and Clyde to be very
interesting.
