2. The Commons’ food has students
feeling hopeless due to:

Questionable sanitation

3. Lack of food options:
The food
serving area
is split into
many different
stations such
as the grill,
the classics,
international,
and
pizza/pasta.
With these
stations, UAB
hopes to serve
students a variety
of foods so that
they never tire of
the same
choices—this
never seems to
be the case.
4. Food schedule
During peak
hours of the day
such as 11:00am2:00pm and
4:00pm-6pm, all
food stations are
in full swing but at
any other
time, there are
hardly more than
two options to
choose from.
For those students that cannot eat
during peak hours due to classes or
sports, this is very frustrating.
5. Questionable sanitation
The first health
inspection of the
Commons on the Green
gave it a score of 80 for
the dishwasher not
being at a certain
temperature and for
having live insects in the
facility.
6. High Prices
A student is required to
purchase a meal plan if they live
on campus but those that do not
have to pay a higher fee when
eating in The Commons—nine
dollars a meal to be exact.

Regardless of living on campus,
students that take twelve plus
hours are required to pay the
$225.00 dining dollars fee, which
is included in tuition. At the rate of
$9.00 a plate, that is only twentyfive meals for the whole
semester.
7. Students are very concerned
about the problems with
meals and hope that things
improve in the future
The Commons is
now one of the
only food options
on campus that
claims to have
any sort of
variety. Students
deal with the daily
struggles of
scheduling a time
to eat when a
decent selection
of food will be
available, if the
food and the
setting are
sanitary, if they
can afford to eat,
and what will be
offered.
