I practice meditation and mindfulness each day. Increasing consciousness is an important goal that
many are lacking. In my journeys I have ran across some well written editorials that I would like to
discuss with you. I might not even like the post, and still I will discuss it as a case study, or
illustration.
Aang The Last Airbender and Meditation
Due to its popularity, The Last Airbender, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, was brought to the big
screen. In both the television series and the movie, the main character Aang possesses many
powers. One ability involves entering a deep meditative state in order to access the spirit world for
help.
The Last Airbender Movie
In a climatic moment in the movie, Aang is unsure as to what to do. He asks if there is a spiritual
place where he can meditate. Upon reaching this location, he is able to go into a deep state of
meditation in which he is unaware of the physical world, but very much in touch with the spiritual
world.

2. While meditating he asks for help and guidance. He is able to communicate with a spirit who offers
advice. The meditation is successful and the advice given is enough for Aang to be able to stop a
battle and bring peace. So, how realistic is this when it comes to meditation?
Benefits of Meditation
The benefits of meditation are numerous. Is it possible to get in touch with the spirit world while
meditating? The answer is yes! However, the paranormal experiences that can be achieved through
meditation don't stop here.
While in deeper states of meditation, some practitioners report claims of being able to develop
psychic abilities. Others meditate to get answers to questions, while relying on their gut feelings for

So, is it possible to access higher forms? According to Dr. Susan G. Shumsky, author of "Exploring
Meditation", it's perfectly normal for people to talk or pray to an entity that most people refer to as
God. However, "Anyone who admits to either seeing or hearing God is considered either saintly or
insane."
Shumsky continues, adding, "Society thinks if you talk to God, it's called 'prayer,' but if God talks to
you, it's called "schizophrenia." Even though meditation can reap many benefits, it appears as if
society, as a whole is not yet ready to accept some of its claims.
Although the average individual can't bend air, water, fire, or earth, there are aspects of Aang and
meditation that can be achieved. The key is to enter a deep mediation, gaining access to higher
states of consciousness.
