1. Editing Process:
The software we used to edit our film trailer was iMovie. I used this because it is the
same software that I used last year when editing my opening title sequence and am
therefore familiar with it.
As Gabrielle was the person who filmed the majority of our footage in France, I was
tasked with editing the majority of said footage.
The first thing I did was experiment with the iMovie feature that already has a
template for film trailers with different genres, however I soon found that I did not like
using this as it doesn’t that allow you to edit many parts of the template, this was not
all bad as this experience allowed me to create the end credit block using this
feature very easily, as I would no longer be using iMovie’s trailer feature I simply
added in all the necessary names for the credit block, took a screenshot and then
added it as an image to the end of our trailer.
After this I created a new file from scratch and uploaded all the footage that Gabrielle
had recorded, I then went through the footage and deleted any that we wouldn’t be
able to use and for some sections there were duplicate shots, so I picked the best
one to use for our production.
I found the storyboard very helpful at this stage as it gave me a rough idea of how to
edit the shots, this was helpful for both Gabrielle and I as it also gave her a rough
idea of what to film if she was unsure and I was unavailable as we were apart.
Even though our final version of the film trailer is quite different from the storyboard,
it allowed me to create the groundwork of the trailer, without it I may have found
editing all the footage and deciding where it should all go very overwhelming at first.
As a motif that we decided on was that we wanted to make it seem like the Masked
Man was watching the Mallory family before taking their daughter, I wanted to add

2. some overlays to make this more evident to the audience. The main overlay that I
wanted to add was one that made it look like the display screen on a camera, as
iMovie does not offer a feature that lets you do this, I googled it and found a
uncopyrighted website that offered overlay packages. Here I was able to find the
camera display screen that I wanted as well as discovering one that made it look like
it was snowing, I thought it would be perfect to add this to some sections that we
included where the Mallory family are ice skating. I thought this would be a nice
touch as I was also going to add footage of the Mallory family at the beach, therefore
giving a subtle hint to the audience as to how long the Masked Man has been
watching them, that it had spanned from around Christmas time to the summer.

3. After deciding on the order that I wanted our footage to be, I decided I wanted to add
some non-diegetic asynchronous sound. Gabrielle and I had a discussion and came
to the conclusion that we wanted to have a heartbeat going throughout, getting faster
when the tension rises, we also decided that at the end there would be a clip where
the Masked Man turns around and heavy breathing would be heard to make the
audience feel uncomfortable.
Before creating our final trailer, the feedback that we received told us that although it
was a motif that we were going with there was possibly too many sections including
the obsession wall and that maybe we should switch some of them out with some
text on screen.
Gabrielle and I both thought this was a good idea but were stuck on what text to add,
after a lot of brainstorming I still felt that nothing we had picked fitted in with our
100%, they were not all there. I finally I got some inspiration after watching a trailer
for the TV show Line of Duty, where they had text on screen, that only included one
word at a time, in the end I decided on the text ‘THE NEXT VICTIM HAS BEEN
CHOSEN’. With ‘Chosen’ coming up at the same time there is a dramatic end to the
music we had playing throughout. To include the text on screen, I used a feature of
iMovie to include it, which allowed me to change the font, the size of the font as well
as use a colour picker so that it was the same colour as the font used when our title
comes up.

4. I am happy with the final outcome of our trailer, however, if we were to film it again I
would make the crazy obsession wall more cluttered.
