Common Kitchen Errors: Food Safety
We are scared about food contamination in our kitchen, but do we really know
why this incidence takes place? Sadly, not many of us are fully aware of the
common kitchen mistake that increase the chances of food contamination. So
today we’ve decided to put some light on the fact. Food contamination takes
place during your day to day kitchen work. We’ve tried to list a few common
kitchen mistakes for you today.
1. Sometimes we taste long stored foods to known if it is still in good
condition. That’s a terrible blunder. Even if bacteria have already developed in
the foods, you can’t see them with naked eyes. So if you’re tasting the foods to
see if it’s still edible, you’re getting exposed to the bacteria. Don’t do that.
Throw the food if it’s more than two days old. Leftovers more than two days
old are not considered safe.
2. We encourage cross contamination unknowingly. How that happens? When
you use same unwashed plate to put cooked meat, which you used previously
to store raw meat, germs spread before you know about it.
3. You should never thaw foods at the room temperature. This is essential for
preventing growth of germs. Remember that germs grow at double speed at
the normal room temperature. So yes, you’ve to be careful about this. You can
defrost foods in microwave, cold water or refrigerator.
4. Never ever stack foods in the refrigerator if they are still hot. Let the cooked
food get settled for an hour or so and then put it in the refrigerator. But yes,
try to refrigerate foods within 2 hours of cooking.
5. Some people have a tendency to taste the raw cookie dough. That’s risky.
Uncooked eggs can have harmful bacteria in them. Don’t taste foods that have
raw eggs in it.
6. If meat or seafoods are sold at the counter or at normal room temperature,
never buy them. Seafoods kept at the normal temperature are considered
highly unsafe.
7. Learn to understand when the meat is cooked. You must be bale to identify
if the meat is cooked or raw because uncooked meat or raw meat can have
lots of harmful bacteria.
8. If you’re not washing your hands properly before you touch foods or cooking
utensils or any other cooking equipments, you’re probably encouraging food
contamination.
