2185_Assignment 6
OVERVIEW: In previous assignment we identified the variables
in our research. Now, it is time to show the relationship
between these variables in a conceptual framework. You have to
draw your diagram to show the relationship between variables.
Note: Provide your answers below the questions.
1. Draw your conceptual model
Drawing diagram should be done by office programs, such as
word or ppt.
Any submission by hand drawing will result %50 penalty. Also,
one of the goal of this assignment is also to improve our
abilities in office programs. (12.5 points)
Tip 1: Example can be found at the end of the lecture for
conceptual framework
Tip 2: Don’t forget to write down number of hypothesis in your
model.
Tip 3: Number of your hypothesis and framework should be
consistent.
.
6. 2. Writing Hypothesis
Write down your hypothesis with their reasoning. For each
hypothesis, you need to state why this relationship exists (Use
at least two-three sentences). (12.5 points)
Tip 1: Example can be found at the end of the lecture for
conceptual framework and in existing articles (article critique
that you did for the assignments 2 and 3).
Tip 2: These hypotheses should be drawn from your research
question and should state the relationship between variables.
For instance: Greater levels of collaboration between firms lead
to better relational outcomes.
Tip 3: Number of your hypothesis and framework should be
consistent.

Identifying Variables of the Research
(25 points)
Submission and Formatting.
- Typed double-spaced lines, Times New Roman, size 12 font,
1-inch margins, letter-sized pages (8.5 x 11 inches)
- Save as a Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) file and name your
assignment in this format Name_Last Name_BUSA
2185_Assignment 5
An important step in developing your research topic is to
identify potential dependent and independent variables. Now it
is time to identify all the variables necessary to answer your
7. research questions. This assignment is critical for your next
assignment. Without identifying your variables, you cannot
draw your conceptual diagram/research model.
Tips:
Remember which one is dependent (effect), which is
independent (cause) variables in your research questions. Also
you might have two or more independent variables).
When you are building your research question, you need imply
cause-effect relationships. What is the effect/impact of …….
on……...? How …. will affect to ……? If you didn’t build your
research questions in this structure, you have to do to modify it
and then you should build your model and to show your
variables.
Here are questions that you need to answer to build your
introduction part of your research paper:
Note: You need to provide your answers with the questions
below.
1. Conceptualization (10 points)
a. Specify whether the measure is a dependent or an
independent variable.
b. Give a brief definition of the variables (concepts) you are
going to use. Define your variables in full sentences. Focus on
how variables were defined in literature.
c. A brief statement explaining why the variable is relevant to
the study.
Variable Name
Type of variable
Conceptualization (Definition)
Sources
Tip: Take it from your research question
Tip: Specify whether the measure is a dependent, an
independent variable or control variable
8. Tip: Define your variables in full sentences. Focus on how
variables were defined in literature.
Show your references in APA style in a short citation. (e.g.
Howard, 2014)
9. Provide you answers for a-b-c into this table.
2. Operationalization (10 points)
a. Provide the operational definitions of the variables, meaning
the exact questions from your questionnaire and their answer
choices. Write in full sentences (how you define your variables
and how you measure them).
b. What are the indicators and dimensions (aspects) of your
concepts? (Review
chapter 6, and lecture)
Provide you answers for and b into this table.
Variable Name
Operationalization
Sources
Tip: Take it from your research question
Tip 1: Provide the operational definitions of the variables,
meaning the exact questions from your questionnaire and their
answer choices.
Show your references in APA style. (e.g. Howard, 2014)
10. 3. Identify control variables that could be used to ensure
causality in your relationship. (5 points)
Tips: Often used as controls are gender, race, age, industry
type, firm size, region of the country, income, education, or
something more specific to your study. It may help to see what
previous literature has used for control variables. If we did not
include control variables, we could end up with spurious
relationships, like when size of the company and revenue. In
other words, you need to identify other variables that could
possibly be influencing your dependent variable, other than
your independent variable. You need to use “control” variables
in your study, making sure that the relationship you are testing
is not spurious.
Provide your control variables that you will use in your
research:

Research Project (Assignment 4)
Identifying Theoretical Basis of Research
(25 points)
Submission and Formatting.
- Typed double-spaced lines, Times New Roman, size 12 font,
1-inch margins, letter-sized pages (8.5 x 11 inches)
- Save as a Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) file and name your
assignment in this format Name_Last Name_BUSA
2185_Assignment 4
Now it is time to show the theoretical basis for your research.
You need to show logical reasoning of your investigation. An
important step in developing your research topic is to identify
the theoretical background of your study. Theories should
explain why things happen, rather than just describe or predict.
Note that it is possible to predict events or behaviors using a set
of predictors, without necessarily explaining why such events
are taking place. Prediction requires only correlations. In
contrast, explanations require causations or understanding of
cause-effect relationships.
Here are questions that you need to answer to build your
introduction part of your research paper:
Tip: If you make any statements/presumptions that are not your
own opinion, you MUST cite them.
Note: You need to provide: Provide your answers with the
questions below.
1. What is the main theoretical basis of the cause-effect
relationships of your study? In this question, only provide the
name of the related theory to your research. (2 points).
Tip: You can benefit from your previous Assignments 2 and 3
(theory section in your chart) to find out related theory for your
research. So, when you are reading the article it is critical to
12. take notes about the theories that was used in similar studies
that you are investigating.
2. Definition of this theory with its citations (0.5 page) (8
points).
In this question, you need to define the theory. While providing
definition of the theory, you need to use at east three citations
(references).
3. You need to show how this theory is related to your research.
(0.5 page) (10 points).
Under this question, you need to provide how this theory is
related to your research. How it will help to explain cause-
effect relationships of your study (dependent (effect) variable(s)
and independent (cause) variable(s))
13. 4. How this study will extend the theory? (2-3 sentences) (3
points).
5. Provide the references that you used. (2 points)
This is a very important part of your paper, not just an
afterthought. All articles that you read and include in your text
must be cited. Furthermore, any articles included in your works
cited page must be cited in the text. Place the sources in
alphabetical order and format the citations using APA format.
Tip: Example in APA style:
Furst, Stacie A, & Cable, Daniel M (2008). Employee resistance
to organizational change: managerial influence tactics and
leader-member exchange. The Journal of Applied Psychology,
93(2), 453-62.

topic in below format. Grading for each article summary will be
distributed equally to each article (25/5). You should add this
summaries in previous assignment’s chart.
Now it’s time to develop the focus of your project and
collecting relevant literature for review. This assignment is
critical to writing your literature review. A literature review is
an objective, critical summary of published research literature
relevant to a topic under consideration for research. Its purpose
is to create familiarity with current thinking and research on a
particular topic, and may justify future research into a
previously overlooked or understudied area. Here is the

Tip: Don’t forget to read guidelines for research project in the
Attachment 1 of the syllabus (page 13)
Tip: This assignment is critical to build your paper. Since, this
assignment is main input for your INTRODUCTION section.

fits within a broad research area in business (or your major) (5
points)
23. 2.2. Why should others care about this problem? What aspect of
this problem may not be well understood? (4 points)
Tip: In this two question above, you need to clearly state why
should we care about this problem? Why is important today?
You need to clearly state what is not well understood about this
problem and what gap still exists in our knowledge of this
problem?
