Hattie W. Caraway became the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate in 1932. That same year, the Winter Olympics opened in Lake Placid, New York and Charles Lindbergh Jr. was kidnapped from his family home in New Jersey. Several other notable events occurred as well, including the opening of the longest subway line in Manhattan at the time, Amelia Earhart's transatlantic flight, and Babe Ruth's famous called home run in the 1932 World Series.
