Emily Davison, a member of the
Women’s Social and Political Union,
was killed by the king’s horse when
she threw herself in front of it. This,
along with other extremist actions by
the group, did not aide the
advancement of women’s rights.

While women were allowed to
participate in university level courses
at Oxford University, it was not until
1920 that they could graduate and
receive degrees.
