4. GHOOMAR
Probably Ghoomar is one of the most popular folk dances of India. Basically developed by Bhil tribe,
Ghoomar was later adopted by other Rajasthani communities as well. This dance has its origination in
Udaipur and is performed exclusively by women on all special occasions and festivals like weddings,
Teej, Gangaur and such. All the women are dressed in gaudy attires namely Ghagra and Choli which is a
long skirt and a blouse and move in a circular motion coupled with upbeat rhythm and songs which is a
pleasurable sight.
5. KALBELIYA
The Kalbeliya Dance of Rajasthan is accorded as intangible heritage by the UNESCO. This fascinating
dance is performed by the women of a tribe with same name i.e. Kalbeliya community whose age-old
occupation is to catch snakes and trade snake venom and thus their costumes resemble that of serpents
and even the dance movements are serpents like.
6. GAIR
Predominantly a Bhil community dance, Gair is a dance with traditional instruments, bright colored outfits
and amazing dance movements. In this dance form, both and women participate wearing traditional
outfits swinging to the loud drumbeats at the same time circling one another. It is majorly performed on
festivals like Holi and Janmasthmi(the celebration of birth of Lord Krishna).
