2. Dividing the Playground by Functional
Areas for Learning
The basic idea behind dividing a playground is because of the fact that it
helps to focus on all the areas of child development. To do this it is
important to change your playground into a classroom.
The zones in which a playground can bee divided into are:
3. Vacant zones
This zone provides children with space and time
that is required for moving among active zones
in the playground. This space can consist of area
that exists between school building and
playground itself. This zone can have benches
or tree stumps.
4. The Creative zone
These zones are more dedicated
towards improving and refining
children’s creative skills. This zone can
have a table and can also house
painting kits and other similar toys that
can invoke the creative skills of the
children.
5. The Fantasy zone
Thee basic aim of this zone is to allow
children to discover their imagination.
This zone would include plastic toys,
legos and toy bricks. These toys would
help children to explore their creativity.
6. The Social Zone
The social zone is the most central part of
all this idea of playground design. This
zone helps children to interact and
socialize with each other. This area
consists of props, playhouse or a play car.
7. The Physical zone
In this area, children can perform
activities that are not possible in a
classroom. Children learn skills like
climbing and other similar physical
tasks.
8. The Nature zone
This zone works to bring children close to
natural elements like grass, flowers and
tress.
