Our Mission
Founded in 1988, The Emeryville Historical Society is an organization with a mission to
inspire and empower people within our community to make Emeryville’s rich history a
meaningful part of their contemporary lives.

Existing Archives
Existing Emeryville Historical Archives are mostly privately owned and stored within the
Oakland homes of founding EHS members Nancy Smith and Don Hausler. They are not
easily accessible to the public and many of the founding members have passed away.

Photography Archive
EHS member Joey Enos’s professional background is in archiving. Joey’s team will
systematically and meticulously scan, metatag and catalog the photos into a Digital Asset
Manager (DAM). The collection will be searchable, browsable and accessible.

Website Creation
The creation of an EHS website will provide a publicly accessible place to publish existing
and new stories. EHS members will utilize their background in graphic and website design
to create a dynamic and content managed website.

Digitize Existing Journals
Existing Journals (over 100) will be scanned and enhanced with Optical Character
Recognition software to make them searchable and extractable.

Once assets are secured and a digital infrastructure established, we will use this to create
new stories, establish walking tours, create oral history accounts/podcasts, etc.
