5. Hair Loss Due To Androgenetic Alopecia
Hair loss that is genetic is known as androgenetic alopecia and, according to the American Academy
of Dermatology, is the most common cause of hair loss.
The symptoms: Women with this trait tend to develop thinning at the hairline behind the bangs,
says Pamela Jakubowicz, MD, a dermatologist at Montefiore Medical Center in New York City.
The tests: Your dermatologist will examine the pattern of hair loss to determine if it’s hereditary and
may order blood work to rule out other causes, Dr. Jakubowicz says.
Causes of Androgenetic Alopecia in Women
Causes for hair loss in women can be numerous. That is why numerous blood tests are usually the
first step in narrowing things down.
Many conditions such as menstrual irregularities, hirsuitism, acne, and naturally higher testosterone
levels can all be factors associated with hair loss.
Birth control pills are common, pregnancy is one of the MOST common, and pre and post
menopause are all hormonally related factors that can trigger hair thinning on a small to large scale.

6. Hair Loss Due To Thyroid Disease
Watching your hair slide down the shower drain or clumping up on your brush is a horrible
feeling, especially for women! Our hair is connected to our identity, our youth, and our health.
HAIR LOSS is also caused by specific health conditions including a thyroid imbalance. But
thyroid imbalances often arise slowly and remain unnoticed by patients and their doctors in the
early phases.
Even with a lab test, your doctor may say everything is fine with your thyroid, even though you
strongly suspect that something is wrong.
This is because standard labs have a very wide range for what is “normal” in terms of thyroid
test results.
If you think your hair loss might be connected to a thyroid imbalance, begin supporting your
thyroid and your hair naturally.Guci Image, world leader and innovator in womens hair losss has
been treating the aesthetic effects of medical related hair loss for over a decade

7. Hair Loss Due To Telogen Effluvium
Telogen effluvium is a phenomenon that occurs after pregnancy, major surgery, drastic weight
loss, or extreme stress, in which you shed large amounts of hair every day, usually when
shampooing, styling, or brushing.
It can also be a side effect of certain medications, such as antidepressants, beta-blockers, and
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.During telogen effluvium, hair shifts faster than normal from
its growing phase into the “resting” phase before moving quickly into the shedding, or telogen,
phase.
It is common for women to notice many different changes to their body during pregnancy. While
some may notice that their hair seems to grow better while they are pregnant, others worry that
they will lose hair during this time.
Is pregnancy the culprit to hair loss? Here are some of the things that you should know about how
pregnancy may affect your head of hair.

8. Hair Loss Due To Lupus
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease in which the body’s own immune system attacks healthy
tissues. The condition affects about 1.5 million people and tends to strike women during their
childbearing years.
The symptoms: Lupus often causes extreme fatigue, headaches, oral ulcers, and painful, swollen
joints. Many people develop a butterfly-shaped rash across the bridge of the nose and become more
sensitive to the sun.
The tests: A rheumatologist will examine joints and other tissues for signs of inflammation, such as
heat, pain, swelling, and redness.
Causes of Lupus in Women
Unfortunately yes, Lupus causes widespread inflammation that usually involves your skin
particularly on your face and scalp.
Lupus can cause the hair on your scalp to gradually thin out, although a few people lose clumps of
hair.Loss of eyebrow, eyelash, beard and body hair also is possible.

9. Hair Loss Due To PCOS
As many as five million women in the United States suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome. The
condition, which can begin as early as age 11, is caused by a hormonal imbalance in which the
ovaries produce too many male hormones.
The symptoms: PCOS can cause facial hair growth, irregular periods, acne, and cysts on the
ovaries. And while you may experience hair loss on your scalp,
The tests: Your doctor is likely to do a blood test to look for elevated levels of testosterone and
DHEAS (dehydroepiandrosterone), a by-product of testosterone.
Causes of PCOS in Women
The cause of PCOS is unknown. But most experts think that several factors, including genetics,
could play a role. Women with PCOS are more likely to have a mother or sister with PCOS.
A main underlying problem with PCOS is a hormonal imbalance. Androgens are male hormones
that females also make.
