1. THE STORY OF A MONKEY’S TALE
In the meantime Miss Carole realizes that having fun is good and she decides to change all her rules. Now
everyone at the zoo can sing, dance, play games and go on holiday again.
Susan the vet finds Cappuccino at the bus stop. Cappuccino tells Susan about the new rules at
the zoo - including no more holidays. Cappuccino tells Susan that he wants to go to Borneo and
Susan agrees to buy him a plane ticket. But then Susan finds out that Cappuccino has stolen the
money from Mr Jones and she says that he must go back to the zoo. Cappuccino begs Susan to
buy him the plane ticket and Susan says that she will see what she can do.
Cappuccino walks around the streets all day. He tries to talk to people but everyone is too busy to stop and
talk to him. He finds a bus stop and thinks the bus goes to Borneo.
Pingu, the penguin talks to Cappuccino. He says that Cappuccino should escape from the zoo and
go to Borneo. Cappuccino decides to escape, he steals Mr Jones' keys and opens the cage. Just
before he leaves the zoo, Cappuccino steals money from Mr Jones.
Then Miss Carole arrives at the zoo - she is the new zoo director. She has new rules for the zoo that
stop all the fun activities. Everyone feels sad, especially Cappuccino who wants to go on holiday and
see his family.
There are activities every day: at 9 o'clock there’s Breakfast with Cappuccino, at 10 o'clock its
the Recycling Game and at 11 o'clock, there is the Orangutan Quiz. There is a singing
competition at 12 o'clock.
Susan telephones Mr Jones at the zoo and Mr Jones rushes to see Cappuccino with the news. At
the bus stop, Susan and Mr Jones talk to Cappuccino about what he should do. Should he go
back to the zoo or go on holiday?
There’s always lots of fun at the zoo, the animals and the people who take care of the animals,
sing, dance and play games. And the animals are allowed to go on holiday to visit their families.

Mr Jones – the zoo keeper
Mr Jones is the zoo keeper who looks after Cappuccino in the zoo. He gives all the
animals their food. He feeds the penguins, the lions and the giraffes. Mr Jones is
forgetful, he never remembers what colour key unlocks which animal cage. He also
forgets what food each animal eats. Would you like to work in a zoo?
Cappuccino
Cappuccino is an orangutan who lives in the zoo. He is planning to go on holiday to visit his
family. He has a big family that lives far away in Borneo. Cappuccino can speak English and
has an important job teaching visitors about animals in the wild. He does a game to practise
recycling and a quiz about orangutans – do you have a question for Cappuccino?
Miss Carole – the zoo director
Miss Carole is the new zoo director at the zoo. She doesn't like singing, dancing and having
fun. She has some new rules for the zoo. One of the rules is to stop animals going on
holiday to visit their families. Miss Carole is bossy and she likes to order Mr Jones around.
2. THE STORY’S CHARACTERS
Susan – the vet
Susan is the vet at the zoo, she checks that all the animals are healthy at the zoo and looks after
the animals when they are sick. She is intelligent and kind and wants to help Cappuccino. Do
you have a pet that you take to the vet?

Where they live
Orangutans are only found in the rain forests
on the islands of Sumatra and Borneo, in
Indonesia and Malaysia.
Orangutans are very endangered because the
forests where they live, are being cut down.
People are cutting down the forests to sell the
wood and to grow other plants. Look at the
BEFORE and AFTER photos of the forest.
3. READ ABOUT ORANGUTANS IN THE WILD
What they look like
Orangutans have reddish-brown hair. They have long arms and strong
hands. They are intelligent. When it’s raining they use leaves as an
umbrella! Orangutan means “person of the forest”
ORANGUTANS LIVE HERE
How they live
Orangutans walk, swing and climb through the trees. At night
they build nests to sleep in. They eat fruit, grass and leaves.
They also like honey, insects and eggs.
A young orangutan stays with its mother until it’s 8 years old.
Mothers have lots of things to teach their young! Orangutans live
until they are 35 to 40 years old.
