2. Overview for Upcoming Assignments Moon Phase Calendar- Students will come up with a calendar with the moon phases. The students’ job will be to observe the moon every single night for one month, and illustrate what it looks like. We will then discuss with the class the phase that the moon was in each day and each week. Rocket integrating Measuring- Students will create a rocket that can be “sent to space”, they will also need to measure the rocket and make sure that is in centimeters. Reading about various astronauts- Students will be assigned to read about astronauts such as Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, and Sally Ride Astronaut Dress up Day- At the end of the unit, the students will be assigned to dress up as an astronaut and give a report on their assigned astronaut.
3. Roles of Students/Parents Students will be required to do their own work and their own research. They will be required to fulfill their assignments on their own and to come up with their own information. We understand that parents would like to help out, you may help your child pick out a costume to dress up as an astronaut and help your child come up with the necessary materials.
4. Questions for students to focus on: 1. Why do astronauts travel to space? 2. Why do we learn about space? 3. Why are there different moon phases? 4. Who was the first astronaut to walk on the moon? 5. What are the different moon phases? 6. How many days does it take for the moon to go around the Earth?
