2. Earth’s Oceans
• The ocean is so big that it covers more than
twice as much of the earth as land does
• The oceans are called:
– the Pacific
– the Atlantic
– the Indian
– the Arctic
– the Southern
Arctic Ocean
3. Oceans travelled
• Ferdinand Magellan was the first captain to sale around
the world, five ships left in 1519 and three years later
only one ship returned and he died on the journey
4. Ocean life
• Sea turtles are mostly found in the ocean
• Once they are in the water, males will not
return to shore again
• Once the sea turtle has grown up it
moves closer to the shore
• Females will travel back to where they
were born to lay their eggs
• They come ashore to lay their eggs on
sandy beaches during the nesting season
