2. What is a Sacrament?
Well kids, a sacrament
is just a fancy word for
Spiritual Rituals.
-The word Spiritual is
usually used when you
are talking about a
religion.
Question: Do you have a religion?
3. How many Rituals did the
Church have?
VERY MANY KIDS!
They are divided into
seven main words that we
will talk about now.
4. 1. Baptism
Baptism is spiritual ritual that is still used today by
many churches. It is the first step of many
important sacraments.
This birthday party, called a ceremony happens
when you are a little baby.
This ceremony is to take all of your mistakes or uh-
oh’s away from you by sprinkling water on your
head or dipping you into water.
Question: Have you been baptized?
5. 2. Confirmation
The word Confirmation
means to confirm, or to
set permanently.
Oil and Balsam is used
in this ceremony.
It overall confirms you
are a Christian of the
Catholic ChurchA picture of Oil
6. 3. Holy Eucharist
Who’s hungry? Doesn’t a peanut butter and jelly
sandwich sound really yummy about now? The Medieval
church had a pb&j on their own. It was made with white
bread and grape juices.
Bread= Body of Christ
Grape juices= The Blood of Christ.
Of course this is just symbolic, meaning to pretend one thing
is another your not really eating Jesus. This ceremony was
used to thank Jesus for dying on the cross for our
mistakes.
7. 4. Penance
Have you ever asked
your parents for
forgiveness because
you did something
wrong? Well Penance
is a word meaning to
ask for forgiveness
from your eternal
father.
*In the Catholic
church you can ask
for forgiveness by
praying, fasting( not
eating), or helping
others through
CHARITY.
8. 5. Extreme Unction
This means to heal ones mind
before they leave Earth in a rocket
ship to Heaven. Somebody in the
church called a Bishop, usually
places olive oil (remember the
picture before?) all over certain
areas on your body. This is another
form of a Spiritual ritual.
9. Orders
Have you been ordered to pick
up your toys you just got done
playing with?
This is a different kind of order.
Order is a fancy word for
saying Joining the Priesthood.
Have you ever wanted to be a
Preacher? Will if you were
back in the Medieval times,
you would have been named
an order.
10. Matrimony
When two people come together to be called
each others forever, also known as getting
married. In the Catholic church you must be
married then to have kids to raise in the
Catholic Church
