The Grammy Foundation Encourages Young Musicians

2. Currently a managing director at Merrill Lynch in Atlanta,
Eric Schimpf has had a long career with the company,
dating back some 20 years. Eric Schimpf has led
operations in Merrill Lynch's Boston and Tennessee Valley
complexes. In the Southeastern US, he annually brought
in some $200 million in annual revenues.
Additionally, he is a member of the National Academy of
the Recording Arts and Sciences, also known as the
Grammys. In addition to the yearly awards telecast, the
academy sponsors a variety of educational programs for
up-and-coming musicians as part of its Grammy
Foundation.
3. Among these offerings is the Grammy Camp Jazz
Session, open to 30 high school instrumentalists and
vocalists. Participants are grouped into a combo (three to
five persons), a choir (eight persons), and a big band (16
to 18 persons). They perform at various events during
Grammy week and attend the awards presentation. They
are also eligible for $2 million in scholarships at several
leading college-level music schools.
The academy offers other educational events, such as the
Grammy Camp Basic Training, in which industry insiders
share their experiences with high school students.
