WHAT IS PHYSICAL EDUCATION? PPHYSICALEDEDUCATION?Planned, sequential, k-12 curriculum, designed to provide students with the knowledge, attitudes, skills, behaviors, and confidence to adopt and maintain life-long physical activity. CDC as defined by the PECAT initiative WHAT IS THE STATE OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION IN CALIFORNIA?In January of 2009, the California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness (Wellness Task Force) contracted with the Center for Weight and Health, UC Berkley (CWH) to conduct an extensive literature review focused on physical education and physical activity during the school day in California’s k-12 schools called “Physical Education Research for Kids (PERK)” Recently, the research study was published and the findings were not surprising – children’s level of physical activity and access to quality physical education programs are well below state and national guidelines.
