3. Introduction :-
• The name Millet is applied to numerous small seeded grasses.
• Origin :- Africa and Asia
• Group of annual grasses arid and semiarid regions Small seeded grains
• Genera/species:-
• Penissetum, Eleusine, Setaria, Panicum and Paspalum.

millets:-
• 2023 has been announced as the International year of Millets.
• Support will be provided for post harvest value addition, enhancing
doemestic consumption,and for branding millet products nationally
and internationally.
• The primary aim of this initiative is to increase the awareness of
millets , health benefits among the genral public.

• The millets include species in several genera.
• The most widely cultivated species in order of worldwide production are:-

• Minor Millets:-

10. Nutritional Importance of Millets :-
• Millets are high in their nutrient content.
• Millets need very little water for their production.
• Millets are three times nutritionally superior to rice and wheat.
• . Millets are nutritionally comparable to major cereals and serve as
good source of protein, micronutrients and phytochemicals. sorghum
and most of the millets contains about 10% protein, 3.5% lipids,
finger millet contains 12-16% protein and 2-5% lipids. Sorghum and
millets are very good sources of micronutrients such as vitamins and
minerals.
11. Health Benefits of Millets:-
• Millets do not contain gluten , hence easy to digest.
• Millets reduces risk of Type 2 diabetes, as releases lesser quality of glucose
in blood.
• Reduces risk of Cardiovascular diseases & do not produce gas in stomach.
