Force is a push or pull exerted by one body onto another that can change an object's motion or physical properties. There are three laws of motion: inertia, acceleration, and interaction. Forces include gravitational, electromagnetic, strong nuclear, and weak nuclear. Aristotle believed objects naturally remain at rest while Galileo concluded objects naturally continue their state of motion.

Law of inertia – A bodyat rest will remain at rest. A bodywhen in motion will continue to
move with constant velocity unless acted upon an unbalanced external force.
Law of Acceleration – Forceis equal to mass times acceleration (F=ma)
Law of Interaction – When bodyA exerts a force in bodyB, bodyB exerts an equal but
oppositeforce on bodyA. Action and reaction forces act on two different bodies and will not
cancel each other. You cannot touch without being touched.
Forceis a push or pull exerted by one bodyon another body. It affects the state of motion of the
body. The application of force may also change the size and shape of the body.
Fundamental Forces
Gravitational force – is responsible for weights of the bodies on Earth as well as for the motion
of the planets.
Electromagnetic force – is an attractive or repulsive force between charged bodies.
Strong nuclear force – holds the constituents of the nucleus together.
Weak nuclear force – plays a role in the radioactive decay of some nuclei.
Aristotle vs Galileo
Aristotle considered that the natural state of a bodyis to remain at rest and a force is needed to
act on a bodyfor it to move and keep it moving. He added: velocity of the object is proportional
to the force applied. Galileo concluded that the natural tendency of a moving object is to
continue moving and no force is required to keep it moving.
