4. 1. Introduction
1.1 Background
This gives general background information and knowledge on the topic and subsequently narrow
down to proposed specific title. The Introduction is the opening section of your Project Description
and provides the reader with an understanding of your reasons for undertaking the project and
clarity about the project’s purpose.
Discuss the opening perspective of the problem area, the challenge in that area and refine the
challenge into a concise
This section provides the necessary background information concerning how you are particularly
qualified to undertake this project and your ability to complete it successfully. To conclude the
project development phase of any production process, you must be able to answer the question:
What do you want to say (or show), to whom, and for what purpose? Answering this three-part
question will allow you to: define and clarify content; identify the target audience and; clarify
objectives.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
It is well-formulated description of the problem which needs to be addressed with the current
project. It may also be the statement of why this research/project should be conducted. What is
the unmet need or problem that your research/project is aiming to solve? How significant is the
problem? Quantify as much as possible. List the type of customers who want a solution to the
problem. For each type of customers, indicate the potential market size. In case of a research
problem, show the significance of the unsolved problem and where this research will be used?
1.3 Objectives
The aim of the project must be clearly stated. This simply is the project goal statement; and should
adequately explain or capture its essence. There may also be specific objectives to accomplish the
aim (main objective) of the project.
1.4 Scope of the Project
5. 2. Literature Review
This section discusses past similar works relevant to the project topic along with cited references.
It should be general and then narrow down to student own specific-topic. It also shows the gap
which have not been filled with the previous similar researches. What has been done by others to
solve the problem? What solutions are already present in the market? What are their
disadvantages? Discussion of theory should be significantly minimized. A proposal with no
literature review is always doubtful.
3. Methodology
This is a description of the methods or technique to be adopted in the study OR particular project.
This does not include the theoretical background of the method but the appropriateness of the
methods should be stated. Methodology includes the general procedure to be followed, data
collection techniques, required materials list, the software /hardware tools required, General
system block diagrammatic. Explain the modules of project through a system level block diagram.
Mention tools, technologies and suitability of the method(s) to be employed with justification. All
relevant experimental, descriptive, theoretical and analytical techniques used in the research
should be outlined.
4. Expected Outcomes/Results
This section attempts to answer questions such as: What results or findings are expected? How has
it contributed to the project stated goals? What are the implications to the study? How does it aid
suggested recommendations and conclusions?
5. Project/Research Plan
It is the time allocated for all activities of the project. The whole time of the project is divided into
smaller time segments (in weeks/months) with different durations depending on the size of work
to be performed. The project plan relies on the activities mentioned on the methodology.
6. Project Plan
6. The budget includes the cost of required materials, the costs of transportation, per diems, any labor
cost included, cost of any professional assistance, the costs of printing, copying, binding, etc. It
relies on the activities mentioned on the methodology
7. Conclusion
The conclusion actually round up the project report by summarizing the salient findings in line
with the objectives; and to give direction for future work. Practical inferences and deductions are
drawn. Suggestions for future work are often included together with contributions of research.
Include a brief summary of how the proposed solution is going to/has addressed the problem
statement specified in the introduction section. Provide an overview of what kind of evaluations
were undertaken in order to prove that the solution really solves the problem with evidence on
results findings.
