Question 7. How does your media
product represent particular social
groups?
Emma Chillman
My media product represents social groups for
example:
• Gender
• Sexuality
• Culture
• Age
• Class
Gender
In my media product gender is portrayed in a
stereotypical way as the victim is female which
is common in most films.
The stalker however is also female which shows
she has power and is going against the
stereotype that women are weak.
Sexuality
The product displays a heterosexual relationship
and is common for many films as it is traditional.
The protagonist is female which is not following
the masculine men stereotype.
Culture
There are a few cultures in my product as the
protagonist is German and the antagonist is
Romanian.
This gives the film a twist and it includes more
than the expectations of British films.
Age
The age of the audience that my product targets is 15-23
as this is the common age of those who go to the cinema.
The characters in my film are aged 15-17 years old this
means they can be seen as relatable by those watching
and it appeals to them.
The product I created is following the stereotype that
teenagers have strong emotions and hormones as the
film consists of actions following strong feelings of love
and hate
Class
A- upper middle class
B – middle class
C1 – lower middle class
C2 – skilled working class
D – working class
E – non working
Our characters fit into the middle class as they wear often
branded clothing and they have formal language
