Briefing on the Situation in the South-East
of Ukraine

2. ATO AREA SITUATIONATO AREA SITUATION
During the week there were no changes in the total manpower and combat
capabilities of the 1st and 2nd Army Corps of Russian Armed Forces.
There were no signs of the creation of attack formations.
The enemy doesn’t respect the provisions of the forces disengagement
agreement (as of 21.09.2016) and continues shelling ATO forces if STANITSA
LUHANSKA area (small arms fire on 28-30.11, 01-03.12).
Sniper teams were used in STANITSA LUHANSKA, AVDIIVKA, MARIINKA,
NOVOTROIITSKE, KRASNOGORIVKA and HNUTOVE.
Highest intensity and density of weapon usage, which are prohibited by the Minsk
agreement were fixed in Donetsk (AVDIIVKA, MARIINKA, KRASNOHORIVKA),
Severodonetsk (KRYMSKE, BALKA KOSHARNA, NOVOZVANIVKA) and
Mariupol directions (SHYROKINE, TALAKIVKA).
3. ATO AREA SITUATIONATO AREA SITUATION
On the 1st of December 1st and 2nd Army Corps began winter training.
Ceremonial reviews and security, daily activity and routine military duty show-case
lessons were conducted.
Army Corps staff board are working in the 1st and 2nd AC units to monitor the
events. 11 separate motorized regiment (MAKIIVKA) and separate UAV
company (DONETSK) of the 1st AC were assessed. Mostly, the attention is paid to
units manning and logistics supply organization.
Planned training were launched at the training ranges. During the week there
were:
sniper firing and anti-tank system crew training at “Perevalskiy” training range;
mortar crew training at “Markine” training range;
movement of the 7th separate motorized brigade (BRIANKA) of the 2nd Army
Corps to the training range “Novopavlivsk”.
The period from 5 till 11 of December is “a week of combat readiness” in the
1st and 2nd Army Corps units.
4. ATO AREA SITUATIONATO AREA SITUATION
Illegal authority of unrecognized “LNR” can use the provision of gas of the
settlements, located on the controlled by Ukraine territory, as an additional
factor to make pressure on our State.
Only Krymske, Nyzhne and Toshkivka, who are controlled by the Ukrainian
Government, but they fully dependent on the provisions of gas from temporarily
occupied territory. The enemy can suspend the provision of gas in the settlement
Zhalobok.
Another important issue is the close location of gas-density field in Lobachevsk to
the line of separation and the presence of law enforcement bodies of Ukraine in this
place. In case any shelling can provoke the damage of the gas system and deprive
approximately 100 houses of gas.
5. Ukraine AF medium-range missile Exercise
in Black Sea region (01-02.12.2016)
Russian side reacts to the medium-range missile test in the air space of the
Black Sea region (01-02.12):
30.11 – quick aerial targets interception exercise was worked out;
1-2.12 intelligence activity, administrative border cover, AAD system were
significantly improved and increased as well as total number of Russian vessel in the
North-Western part of Black Sea also increased.
The following reconnaissance assets participated in the reconnaissance activity:
reconnaissance aircraft Il-20 (launched from temporarily based airfield
GVARDIISKE in the Crimean airspace);
An-26 type aircraft (flying laboratory, task group was monitoring the
characteristics of the missiles flight trajectory and the results of the missiles
launches);
medium-size reconnaissance vessels “Pryazovie” and “Kyldyn” of the Black
Sea Fleet (were coming to the western area of Tarhankut cape).
In order to protect administrative border, BTG of the 247th air-assault regiment
(STAVROPOL) 7th airborne-assault division were put in combat alert and conducted
concealed redeployment from their permanent base (FILATIVKA) to the forward
positions (near ARMIANSK).
6. Ukraine AF medium-range missile Exercise
in Black Sea region (01-02.12.2016)
Su-30SM fighters as well as A-50 AWACS type aircraft were on combat duty and
patrolling the airspace. A-50 AWACS type aircraft was transmitting data about the
aerial situation to the command post of the 31st AAD division (Sebastopol), 4th Army
of the AAD and Air Forces of the South MD.
Anti-aircraft battalion ZRS-300 (eight launching systems were moved from
DJAKOI airfield), which are part of 31th AAD division as well as radar set 55Zh6U
“Nebo-U” (target detection range – up to 700 km) were deployed on temporarily
positions in the western part of Crimean peninsula (near Tarhankut cape).
AAD unit, which has ZRS S-300V4 was moved through Kerch ferrying bridge on
the 29th on November. Later, the system was deployed near YEVPATORIA.
In order to provide quick response on any operational changes, as well
demonstrate naval presence:
RAF combat vessels were present in the north-west part of the Black Sea (guard
vessel “Pytlivii”, small missile vessel “Shtil”, missile vessel “Samum” and missile
vessels “Bryz” and “Ivanovets”);
43rd separate naval assault aviation regiment of the Black Sea Fleet naval
aviation was put on high combat alert (SAKY/NOVOFEDORIVKA, Su-30 aircrafts –
9, Su-24 aircrafts – 14, Be-12 aircrafts - 3).

Situation on the East of Ukraine has the sign of controlled escalation.
The enemy continues shelling ATO forces and tries to provoke return-fire
and further blame the Ukrainian side for the violation of the Minsk agreement.
