This music video is extremely voyeuristic towards Madonna as she is sexualized. This is
shown through her tight leather looking costume which shows her legs. The male gaze can
also be seen through out as there is constantly a group of men that are following and
protecting Madonna as if they are in love with her.
The pop genre characteristics are also key, such as the costumes, the dance routines and
the lighting. They all add together to create the pop genre feel. The dance routine and
costumes can also add together to create a star image of the artist which is a part of Steve
Archer’s theories.
3. The notion of looking throughout the music video is something that the audience will
use to relate to the music video. Madonna is seen to be constantly singing towards the
camera to make her seem as though she is singing directly to the audience.

Performance is a large part of this music video as there is not much
narrative and therefore the video relies heavily on performance, this is
another genre characteristic of a pop music video.
There is a lot of fast cutting throughout the music video which emphasizes
the pop genre of the music video and the upbeat tempo of the music.
The star image of Madonna is similar to that of Kylies as they have
both influenced each other, therefore both will influence me for my
music video. The star image is important as this helps the audience
recognise the artist, relate to the artist, understand what the artist is
trying to portray and helps make them a recognizable symbol, in pop
for Madonna and Kylie.
