challenge or develop forms and conventions
of real life media products?

2. Annie lennox
When researching into Annie Lennox we
discovered that she is categorised into a range of
genres, e.g.; pop rock, pop music, blue eyes soul
and jazz.
3. Conventions developed.
• When researching into pop rock we found the music video to Coldplay's Paradise , this used a narrative
story line to base its theme on and had shots that were cut to the beat of the song.
• When researching into jazz songs we noticed that 99% of the original music videos were based on
performance due to the fact that they didn’t have the technology to make a different narrative video.
• Deciding how to make our music video was hard as we liked the idea of using lip sync in it but also liked
the idea of our song having a story to it. So we diced to mix them together and have majority
narrative with small elements of the performance, which ended up looking good as it broke up the
story a little bit so that the audience didn’t get to distracted from the actual song itself.
4. Jazz productions inspiration research
• During our research we found that Jason Maraz is an example who wrote a jazz song and
in his music video used a mix of narrative and performance shots in his music video,
this we found was a good inspiration for our music video, how ever he did not use
much editing to the beat.
5. Conventions of jazz music videos
• Some of the conventions of jazz music videos areas that the performance space is usually quite large
and in many different locations though out the video.We conformed to some of these conventions
yet challenged others for example.We did have a large space for our performance shots however
only used one scene and used jump shots to go back and forth to the narrative to the
performance.
• The costumes worn in the music videos are very significant as they are very sophisticated. Men
usually wear a suit and women, a dress we used this convention in our media production as we
liked the feel it gave to the audience, as we used the same character in normal everyday clothes
this shows her stage characteristics and her everyday life characteristics.

• We conducted some research on some pop rock music videos, the artist we liked was

performance which was nice however used too much narrative which sort of
distracted us from the actual song so when we edited our product together we were
conscious of this.
