Infatuation can be a distraction from focusing on God. It occurs when someone catches our eye and we allow them to displace God as the focus of our affection instead of making God the object of our longing. Infatuation is often based on illusion, where we build the person up in our imagination as perfect without knowing their true identity. This can lead to disappointment when we discover they are human like everyone else. We should keep God in his rightful place as first in our lives and focus our thoughts and desires on him so that we do not struggle as much when human relationships let us down.

1. INFATUATION is DISTRACTION
Elizabeth A. Hechanova
“Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.”-proverbs 4:23
This verse reminded me about the infatuation that I’ve experienced. The constant thoughts about
someone who had caught my eye, the heart palpitations whenever that person walks by, the hours I spent
dreaming of a future with that someone. It’s infatuation, and I know it well, having experienced it myself.
Many of us have a difficult time seeing infatuation as potentially harmful. But we need to examine it
carefully, because when we really think about it, infatuation can be a sinful response to attraction. Any time
we allow someone to displace God as the focus of our affection, we’ve moved from innocent appreciation of
someone’s beauty or personality to the dangerous realm of infatuation. Instead of making God the object of
our longing, we are always hoping that person will meet our needs and bring us fulfillment.
Infatuation can cause problem for us because it is most often founded on illusion. When we infatuated
with someone, we tend to build up that person in our imaginations as the most perfect guy/girl. We think we
will be happy forever if that person would return our affections. But we can only sustain our silly crush
because we’ve substituted fantasy for all the information we lack about the person as soon as we get to know
that person’s true identity and discover that our most perfect man/woman is human like everyone else, our
dreams fade and we move on to a new crush.
But always keep this in mind and always remember that we should placed God in his rightful place in
our lives, so that we don’t struggle so much when human relationship let us down. He created us and
redeemed us. He wants us to focus on our thoughts, longings, and desires on him. He lovingly blessed us with
human relationships, but he first calls us to find our hearts delight on him.
Indeed, I want to stay focused on God until the right man comes along, I refuse to feed romantic
expectations and let my heart get carried away.
