2. Dear Tom,
On the 9th of May we will celebrate the 70th anniversary of our Victory over Nazi
Germany . I would like to tell you the story about heroism and courage, bravery
and honour, life and death. I would like to tell you the story about Valorous
Hearts.
3. The Great Patriotic War. What do we know about it? It brought only
desolation and devastation. A lot of families were destroyed by the war.
People sacrificed their lives to stop these destructions. One of these heroes
was my great-grandfather. His name was Alexandr Ivanovich Toropov.
4. Alexandr was born on the 23rd of February,1900 in Nizhny Landeh. In 1937 he
graduated educational institute in Yaroslavl. During the war he was serving in the7th
artillery division. He participated in forcing of the river Svir, capturing of Szolnok and
Budapest . Alexandr showed himself as fearless and valiant commander, who could lead
huge groups of warriors. For his feats he was awarded the Order of Red Star and the
Medal “For Military Merit”. My great-grandfather died in 1957.
5. The war was won.
Heroes with Valorous Hearts saved our country.
They did it not for glory.
They did it not for any ideology.
They did it not for power.
They did it not for revenge.
They did it for peace.
They did it for love.
They did it for our future.
Thank you, Grandpa.
