2. โEric, is my name. I am a simself, a direct representation of the creator of this simulated universe.โ Straightening his shirt he looked down at a note card on his desk. โI suppose it is not of much mystery as to why Iโm here. I am introducing the brief introduction of my newest legacy. All of the original legacy rules apply, along with a few handicaps, which I hope will make for an interesting twist.โ
3. Jethro Beaumont Family/Popularity LTW โ 6 Grandchildren Personality: 5/4/4/3/9 Handicaps: Green Thumb Pure Entrepreneur Strict Family Values Do it Yourself Patriarch 1st Born Inherits โOur legacy follows this man โ Jethro Beaumont. The dog at his feet is a fairly inconsequential coonhound known as Tick. I suppose now is a good time for stats and handicaps. They will from here out be given at the end of chapters when needed.โ
4. โHow did this legacy start you ask? It began when I walked into my office to be met by a curly haired overly nice-point adorned sim sitting across from my desk. As one might guess my eyebrow was quite raised at this sight and I was met with one of the widest and goofiest smiles I have ever seenโฆ โCan I help you?โ I asked looking around for some sort of clue as to why or how this stranger had entered my home.
5. โYes!โ He exclaimed leaping out of the chair to extend his hand. โIโm Jethro Beaumont, although Iโm sure you know that, being you are who you are.โ I rather cautiously accepted the handshake before sitting down at my desk. โHow is it that I can help you Mr. Beaumont?โ โI need to get my familyโs land back. I need the deed.โ
6. I looked at him for a moment, slightly confused as to why he had come into my office. For the past century of this sim universe I had taken a lassiez -faire approach to governing my world. โI am sure youโre familiar with the rules of our city Mr. Beaumont. I do not take a heavy hand with my people โโ โYes! But Iโd like to obtain it through the legal way, Iโm not asking for hand out from you. Iโd like to sign on for the legacy contract.โ
7. I was silent for a time. Crystal Springs was a little town, the people here were the simpler kind, living off the land and not heavily delving into the education system. โDo you have any idea what that contract entails? It would be extraordinarily easier to go through a lawyer and obtain your deed through our court system. What is the problem with the deed, are you behind on your payments? The legacy contract is 10 centuriesโฆ1000 years.โ
8. โYes Sir, that all Iโm quite aware of. The problem with the deed is that Crystal Springs has become much less of a farmers community and much more of a developing neighborhood.โ He seemed to be struggling with something, I pressed him. โMr. Beaumont, a legacy contract is intense, if you are hoping to gain my approval for such an undertaking Iโm going to need more information than just an argument against community developers.โ โFrankly itโs a bit of a sob-story, but I suppose Iโll put it on the table. My mother passed away when I was a little boy, Mr. Simself, and my father he and I never saw things in the same light.โ
9. โI moved downtown at 15 couch hopping and eventually landing a job at pizza shop and gaining an apartment in the downtown high rise. So Iโm not sure you could call me an anti-development country boy. Iโve been in that apartment for almost 9 years. โI got a call about a week ago from my fatherโs neighbor. She said he had bulldozed the farm house, she said all that was left was a the garden cabin, a few rows of crops, and the flowers my mother had planted before she passed away.
10. โI applied for time off of work at the pizza shop and had the next weekend set to go out to Crystal Springs. The problem happened that Friday. I got another call from the neighbor, now sheโs a little old lady thatโs hard of hearing anyway, but she said she had heard Tick, my fatherโs coonhound, crying for nearly 12 hours. To make a long story a little shorter she found my father out by the tree my mother had planted and he had passed away sometime that night. โI canceled that weekend off but was told I was losing that job. Iโll lay it out for you Mr. Simself, I donโt have an education, that apartment has dropped me from the lease and now the developers at Crystal Springs are telling me theyโre zoning my land for a subdivision, the only thing my father left his family. Iโm not sure thereโs another way out of this.โ
11. I sighed, fired up the PC and looked at Jethro. โLet me look up your mortgage.โ He was silent as I typed, looking into files that had been hibernating for quite sometime. I finally came across the Beaumont estate. It was a 5X5 parcel of land. One of the largest here in Crytsal Springs. His father was nearly two years behind in payments, and Jethro had done his homework, the legacy contract alloted a gift of 20,000 simoleans to the founder in order to purchase a 5X5 parcelโฆhis father was behind 15,200 simoleans worth of payments, that would indeed cover it. I was still hesitant, approving one of these was a huge undertaking.
12. It was at that moment that my fiancรฉe entered the room. โOh hello! I didnโt know we were having company.โ Her gaze was a little too knowing. โHoney, you should have told me we were having company and I would have put something special on for dinner.โ โThis is more of a business meeting.โ I said, hoping she hadnโt heard much of Jethroโs rambling.
13. She was at my desk before I could close the legacy program on the PC. โItโs such a great gesture of you to extend him a legacy contract for his fatherโs home.โ She glanced back at Jethro. โIโm so sorry about your recent tragedy. Eric will be sure to speed up the legacy contract so you donโt lose that parcel Mr. Beaumont.โ I scratched my head, not sure how I had just gone from looking for a loophole for this man to promising a legacy contract.
14. I watched her leave, and did what any grown man would do at a time like that. โIโm printing the contract now Mr. Beaumont. There will be a few papers to sign and Iโll need your checking, savings, and bank routing number to transfer the 20,000 simoleans to that account. Within 48 hours the property deficit should be taken back down to 0 and youโll be left with an approximate 4,800 in your account.โ โThank you! Where can I sign?โ I grabbed the papers and walked out onto the balcony to,hopefully, give him the contract details in privacy.
15. โI also had to make a deal with the government natural resources organization, meaning this is a green thumb legacy contract. I would advise you to instruct your family that the media is going to be watching this like a hawk, what I mean by that is keep anyโฆquestionable activities from occuring. Strict Family Values need to be adhered to. Also, because of the deal with natural resources I want you to stay away from all of Crystal Springs services do your repairs yourself, thatโs way too much of a risk for property damage.โ Jethro was excited, he had already signed the papers, but I wanted to go over the contract guidelines one more time. โListen Jethro, the contract differs slightly than the original base contract, because of the developers here. I had to make a few phone calls and call in a few favors. Its an entrepreneur contract, meaning you and all inheriting heirs will not be allowed to take a job in the private or public sector. I have it written in as patriarchal inheritance of the first born to make it easy and clean free of any legal discrepancies after youโve passed away.
16. โThank you Mr. Simself. Youโve helped me tremendously, you will not be sorry taking this risk.โ The hug was unexpected, this was indeed a nine nice-point sim and although my nice points were lacking it was hard not to like the guy. I did have my concerns with his ability to run this type of legacyโฆhe had been fairly far removed from the farming way of life for quite some time, but time would be the only way to tell.
17. Thank you for reading the introduction to Family Roots. I will be attempting very much to finish this legacy Iโve had another attempt with a werewolf but after life settled down a bit and I removed the mods in my game I got an itch to try this one out, its been an idea in my head for quite a while now and soโฆhere goes! โ Next time on Family Roots we will see how stray cats can ruin a manโs life, why most people are not farmers, and much more ๏
