Patty Lopez has been elected as the sole immigrant in the next California State Assembly. She acknowledges the support of her community, family, volunteers, and others that have helped her get to this position. As an immigrant herself, Lopez hopes to serve as a role model for others in her community and help them feel more connected to the government system. During her two-year tenure, Lopez and her team will focus on issues like education, jobs, housing, and immigration to help improve lives in her district. She intends to advocate fairly for all the ethnicities and interests in her community.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
12/01//2014
Sacramento, California - First and foremost I wish to Acknowledge my creator, my family, an
army of volunteers, friends, associates and others who have provided me with support, resources,
prayers and well-wishes during my long journey here. You all have worked hard so that I can
now represent the many unheard voices within my community - a community that I have sworn
to represent and intend to do with all of my heart and soul.
Without the community’s steadfast support and faith in me this humble homemaker would not be
making history as the sole immigrant in the next California State Assembly. I’m absolutely
honored in this distinction, especially at a time when immigration is such a prominent point of
discussion and in light of the recent President’s executive actions regarding immigration
Many people in my community feel they are dis-connected from the system. I hope that from
witnessing me at this level of government (in addition to being a role model) the community will
see me as proof that, people like me, who have been here for more than 30 years can also be part
of the system and that, to me, is the beauty of the system.
I intend to represent all of the many ethnicities, political and business interest in my community
fairly and equally. I’m already hard at work, very carefully putting together my ‘dream team’. A
team I’ve been envisioning for many years and one that will have the expertise, resources and the

issues.
During my two-year tenure my team and I will be focusing on education, special education, jobs,
housing and immigration. Young people in particular need more opportunities, job availability
and particularly more technical training.
Two years from now - regardless of whether I continue in office or not - my hope is that many in
my community will see improvements in their personal lives and their trust and connection with
State government will have improved.
I have much to learn in Sacramento but I know the people of the 39th District and I will advocate
for our community whether I’m in Sacramento or the District. I feel this is truly a victory for the
people of the 39th District. I intend to always be the voices from the community.
