2. Nowadays, it's very common to be told that we all need to do our part in
preserving our planet by recycling.
Should we really go to all of that
effort? Think about the fact that a
single plastic shopping bag can take
up to 1,000 years to completely break
down. 1000 years is quite a long time
for only one shopping blag.
Calculate the number of trash bags you use annually on top of those plastic
shopping bags. You're talking about a lot of plastic bags when you multiply that
amount by the number of people living in our country. We can decide to reuse it
by recycling and prevent it from sitting in a landfill decomposing for years.
3. One town located in California, called Lemoore, first started a very strict
recycling program for its residents fifteen years ago.
Residents of the town had to comply with the recycling rules otherwise they faced
fines. Needless to say, a lot of people complied and recycling really helped this
town.
Recycling also helped to fund basic municipal necessities, such as a police
department, a fire station and funding for children attending pre-school.
Obviously, recycling does more than just reuse unwanted items; it can help to
generate money for other projects
4. Although it may seem that the recycling efforts of one person can't make a
difference, multiply that small difference by everyone in the world and the results
could be remarkable
We could reduce the size of most landfills which, in
turn, would save money in their operation and
prevent damage to the local environment.
Additionally, recycling can help to raise money for needy residential areas while
benefiting the earth. It's a win-win scenario!
5. Even if you don't care about the earth, try thinking
of others; not only humans but also animals.
Global warming and other environmental problems are killing wildlife in
addition to destroying the planet. By merely spending a little time recycling,
you're saving the earth for the next generation to enjoy, just as you have.
6. Consider how long every last thing you discard takes to decay.
As stated earlier, a plastic bag will take
roughly 1,000 years to decompose.
An expendable diaper will take approximately 400 years, a milk bottle could take
500 years, a glass jar could take a great one million years and Styrofoam (that
stuff your takeaways are in) may possibly never break down! This can all be
recycled, so why just discard them?
7. Of course, right now we don't have the technology to recycle several items but
this could change in the future
In the meantime, there is no excuse for not recycling things like plastics, metals
and glass.
Recycling these items is pretty convenient in many communities and is not
costly, so it's a great idea to help the environment. If everybody helped, a world
of good would be done.
